Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
During boot up of you can hear the laptop look for the cd/dvd drive but it dos not show up or work. I have deleted the filters and that didn't help. I have called Acer and they gave me no help. I called Pioneer and they gave me no help either. I hope you can give me some ideas or help. Thank You
Its a know issue that the siuthbridge chip on the motherboard is ubject to lots of problems... Acer are aware of the prblem. this issue is down to using cheap chips and poor soldering. unfortunatley the only way to fix this is to get a new motherboard.. or sent it to acer.. i have fixed many of these by replacing the board.. costs £150 for new board + fitting...

Try getting a new connector from the motherboard to the drive.

Note: The Microsoft Windows XP CD is a bootable CD and in many cases you should not need a bootable floppy diskette. Booting from the Windows XP CD will allow you to not only install/re-install Windows XP but will also allow you to troubleshoot it.
Create MS-DOS bootable diskette
When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.
