While the solution provided, very likely applies to a newer model, (mines about 3 years old) it wasn't the answer in whole, but it did put me on the right path, thats for sure. So I would rate the solution very highly and send out a big, well deserved thank you.

If your Tracfone has an uparrow on the zero (0) key, after entering a character, IMMEDIATELY hit the 0 key.  The phone will change the case of the previously entered character AND change case for subsequent entries.
If you're too slow typing the 0 key, you'll get the characters assigned (0, +, etc.) to that key.

Hold down the star sybol to change cases in text. usually default is "Abc". If you hold down * for a few seconds it changes it to "abc" or "ABC". Just keep repeating holding down the star key until you get the method you want.

I have a motorola tracfone w175g and wondering how to capitalize letters? do you have a detailed manual on the buttons?

Press "0" key.
A plus or minus sign will display in the text space.
The (upper case) "AB" or (lower case) "ab" on the top left-hand side of display will change to case you are seeking.

One Time Entry

check your text button settings
I think it's the star button every time you hit it it will change the type of text from capital to lower case to numbers to symbles ect.
If it is not the star button look for the button with the arrow on it pointing upwards
