Why is ma dehumidifier compresor cuting off after starting it

this is a sign of a compressor problem : either the low gas pressure switch is shutting it off right after it starts or a high head pressure is stalling it off after it runs for a second , both of these conditions are not usually repairable by a homeowner and both are not good for a working unit

Why does a dehumidifier go into defrost mode?

It gors into defrost mode if the cooling coils frost over. This usually occurs when the ambient air temperature in the room or basement reaches 65 Degrees F or lower. It's a normal operation and nothing to worry about at this point. Also, keep in mind that the air intake filter should be cleaned at least once every two weeks. This will help to reduce the frost on the cooling coils.

I hope this answered your question and thanks for choosing FixYa.

How to replace or clean the filters also im trying to find a manual for this humidifier.

To remove and clean the filter: Turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Remove the water bucket and set it aside. Just under the front of the dehumidifier where you removed the bucket you will see a plastic handle. Pull down on it gently and filter will come out. Wash it with warm water and dry thoroughly, before reinstalling it in the dehumidifier. It is recommended that you clean the filter a minimum of once every 2 weeks.

As far as an Owners Manual is concerned. The following link will take you to it and you can download and print it for future reference.

What does p1 mean and how can I fix that? It's not pulling any water out of the air. I've lost my manual

It is low on freon and will not dehumidify the air. A local appliance dealer may be able to recharge it.

I cannot find my manual for the Westpointe dehumidifier. I need to know how to fix it so that it uses a drain instead of the tank. It is set up with the hose which is directed to a drain. However, I...

Make sure the hose is clear. Did you put a hole in the attaching place for the hose? Most tanks come with no hole even though there is a hose place in the tank.

Code on Top

I have another of their dehumidifiers, the MDF1-30AE. The first time the P1 came on, the unit stopped, because the filter needed cleaning. Recently P1 came on but the unit didn't turn off, and I had already cleaned the filter, so I phoned Midea customer service at 1-866-646-4332. The man told me P1 means it's in defrost mode and said to just leave it on and the P1 will eventually go away. It's been a while though....
