Try replacing the telephone wire between the fax machine and the wall. If you have dsl, make sure the fax phone wire is plugged into a filter. Try setting the fax machine to transmitreceive at a slower speed. This could indicate a problem with your phone wires. Is there static on your phone line? Maybe give your telephone company a call and have them check the line(s).
You have to have either a dedicated phone line just for the fax --or-- pay your phone company approximately $2 a month for a service called Distinctive Ringtone. This service will ring a certain way when you have an incoming fax. You will then configure your fax machine to pick up when this distinctive rington is heard. The ringtone is usually two or three quick rings. Your fax machine's settings will have this setting.
Unfortunately, you can't just plug your fax machine into your phone line and start sending/receiving faxes. Look through your fax machine's manual regarding the distinctive ring service. Good luck!!
get distinctive ring service from your phone company, that will get you a different number, on the same line, with different ringing pattern, my tel compnay charges $5 per month, then set the fax options to DRPD, and it will go directly to fax machine, while the phone calls on first number, will go to telepehone.....
if you have the fax-575 there should be a TAD setting.
This is the setting you would use if you're using an answering machine on the same phone line as your fax machine.
