PS3 online game (NFS Undercover) not working on new router.
Comcast changed out a bad router to a netgear router. My PS3 can access the internet and surf, but now I cannot connect to the NFS undercover online game to race. It was working before on the old router (when the old router was working )but now its not. I have the same settings and all the computers in the house work. The old router was a 'gateway router' according to Comcast. The only difference in the two routers (old vs new) is the old router connected to the cable via a coax connection, and the new router connects to the cable modem via a cat 5 cable.
Thanks for the help.

I might advised you to call the PS3 manufacturer to gather the ports of the PS3 then you'll needing the help of netgear provider to open the ports of the PS3 to the router, so that the PS3 will allow to the firewall of your router.

The following steps will help you forward ports on the NETGEAR router for Play station network (PS2, PS3, PSP). At time you can not access or play online games through your PS and in such cases you need to make sure that you have the required ports forwarded on your router as mentioned below. The below steps are applicable for NETGEAR router model WGR614, WGT624, WPN824, WNR2000, WNDR3300, WNR854T, WNR834B etc
1. Open a browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari) on your computer connected to the router.
2. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.1.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
3. Login to the router (Username = admin and Password = Password unless you have changed it).
4. Click on Port Forwarding under Advanced.
5. Click on 'Add Custom Service' button.
6. Specify any name for the service (PSN1). Select Service Type as TCP/UDP
7. Specify the Start and the End Port as 80.
8. In the server IP Address specify the ip address of the PS3.
9. Click on 'Add' button.
10. Follow the same steps to open the below ports
Start = 443 End = 443 use name as PSN2
Start = 5223 End = 5223 use name as PSN3
Start = 3478 End = 3479 use name as PSN4.
Start = 3658 End = 3658 use name as PSN5.
Start = 10070 End = 10080 use name as PSN6.
These steps would allow you to access online games on your PS connected through the NETGEAR router.
You can do a reset on the router to make a factory settings.On the back of the router you can look for a small hole usually with the word reset.Press it for 20 secs with the router on but disconnected from the Ethernet cable.Start up your PC and surf to the router Web UI (192.168.***) and make your settings.
Most routers have a menu you can access. There you must forward your ports. You must find out what ports ps3 uses and put them into your gaming ports. Depending on your router settings you may need to do specific assignments. This should get you going. Xbox requires me to have the proper internet settings to access my router. Portforward.com helps noobs to forward ports on your router by use of your computer. Once they are open, your UPnp will be set. It may seem hard, but once you give it a shot, you will be happy.
If you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work? If that works then the modem is working. Now connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router. You will need to open the set up page of the router to check the settings of the router. You can set up the router without the CD also. It is very easy. I understand that you want to connect the PS3 using the Wireless card and NETGEAR card. Please note that the setup you have will not work for internet access. You can not configure the Air card to work with NETGEAR router. you need to have wih a broadband connection available for this router to connect to internet.
Once you have the router configured with Internet access then you may either connect the PS3 wired or wireless to the router, like you connect a desktop or laptop to the router.
