Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Calculator

Open Question

I downloaded a Unit Circle Chart App on to my TI 84 plus. The program works like it is suppose to. However, every time I use the app I lose the ability to use my function keys. They are completely disabled until I download the operating system again and then the program again. Does anyone know an easier way to get my function keys working? The programmers instruction for this flaw is: "#Functions are turned off Press Y= and hover over the plus signs, press enter while on a plus sign to turn functions off and on". I have tried this several times but I don't understand the hover over the plus sign part. Help?

SOURCE: TI 84 will not graph multiple functions simultaneously

Turn off transformers. Go to apps and go all the way down until you reach transformers then hit enter. Then a menu should appear and hit uninstall that should fix it.

SOURCE: Graphing

Hi, you can try uninstalling the transformation app in your calculator. This does not really uninstall your application, it only prevents it from interfering with it. You should be able to graph multiple functions after that.

1) Go to APPS
2) Press Transfrm
3) Click Uninstall

SOURCE: Why do some TI83 program work on a TI84 plus and other don't?

The only differences between th 83 plus and the 84 plus SE are . The speed of the processor and the amount of RAM. Programs for the TI83Plus are compatible with the TI84, while those for the TI84 may not be able to run because of the different amount of memory.
You say you entered the programs: does that mean you typed them? In that case you might have made an error. Try transferring the programs using the calc-to-calc cable or a calc-to-computer cable. Yoy need TIconnect to be installed on your computer.
Hope it helps.

SOURCE: TI-84 PSE: Stuck on waiting... please install operating system now screen

The best way to solve this problem is to get a 2nd TI-84 to link into with the linking USB cable. Then turn on working calc press the 2nd button then link button (or the XTON) variable button. Scroll up to option G: SEND OS "DO NOT HIT ENTER YET" and then remove and replace one battery from the non-working unit. NEXT press enter on working unit to SEND OS.

I can't see the shortcut menus. When I press ALPHA F1, I get the Y= menu. The ALPHA key is not broken, because ALPHA MATH produces an A as it is supposed to. I've hit 2ND-QUIT and CLEAR several...

I just had this problem: shortcut menus used to work, but stopped, with TI Version 2.55 MP. I discovered that running the preloaded app PlySmlt2 (others work, too) and quitting it fixed the problem, but that later running a non-TI app caused the problem again. So the non-TI app may be misbehaving, as suggested in this TI knowledge base article.

I did not reset or delete anything on my TI-84 calculator but after i changed my batteries i went into my programs but my programs were not there... do you know how to get my programs back?

You should not remove all the batteries ( AAA and backup) at the same time. Rather change the AAA batteries leaving the backup battery in. Then if you have to, change the backup battery while the AAA batteries are inserted.
If you do not take this precaution, you lose programs.

To reinstall programs that shipped in calculator (or additional apps) go to the page by clicking this link Download what you need and use the TI Connect software to transfer the APPS to your calculator.

When i press the apps button, all it shows is finance... how do i get the rest of my apps back??

The Finance App is part of the Operating system. You cannot get rid of it. The other Applications can be deleted from Archive Memory.
To restore them:
  1. Download them from
  2. Connect calculator to computer
  3. Run TI Connect.
  4. Drag and Drop an App onto the TI connect Main window
  5. The App should transfer to calculator
  6. After transferring one or two Apps, Press [2nd][MODE] to (QUIT) and let the calculator defragment the memory.
  7. Transfer one or two more Apps.

Restore apps to TI-84 Plus

I am always happy to polish the apple...before I eat it. (Just joking!)

All the applications that were preloaded on your calculators are available to download freely from Use the tab Download--> Apps and software. Then select software for the TI83/TI84 Family. While you are at the site download the TI Connect, if you do not have it already. The link follows. You can also download the latest OS there. (Beware: while applications and programs are compatible with the TI83 and 84, the Operating systems are not.)

Install TI connect on your computer and run it to open the main Window. Then connect you calculator to a USB port and, in the TIConnect main window Click the TIDeviceInfo icon. Software will try to retrieve the info. If it does your calculator is ready to communicate with the computer.

If it tells you Device Not found , Click communication settings in same pop up window where it said Not found, and Select Device, Select Cable (USB or TIsilver cable), Select Port (USB1) and Click OK..

If you are lucky and it works, you can reinstall the OS, which can be downloaded from You drag and drop the OS on the TIconnect main window. Calculator must of course be connected to computer. To install an application already downloaded to your computer, drag it to the main window of TI Connect and drop it. Keep installing, the appilcations you want.

If you have problem with TIconnect, use the calc-to-calc cable to transfer the Apps from a working calculator. You should be on Receive mode [2nd][Link] --->>Receive. (When both calculators are ready hit enter.) The other calculator must be set to Send [2nd][Link][SEND][C:Apps]. A list of Apps appears. Scroll down the list. If you want to transmit un app you press [ENTER] when the arrow reaches its line. Once an app is selected , a small square appears on the left. After the selection, Hit transmit. I suggest you transfer Apps, one after the other. Avoid selecting them all and send them all at one go.

If you want to transfer the OS of a working calculator the sending calculator must be on [2nd][Link][SEND][SendOS]. TI83Plus OS is not compatible with TI84Plus nor TI84PLUS Silver edition OS.

In addition to the preloaded applications, you can also transfer programs the same way. For a repository of TI83PLUS/TI84PLUS and TI84+ SE, go to (or com), visit the archive section of the site.

Hope it helps.

Use the link cable and link your calculator to a calculator where the apps haven't been disabled. From the other calculator, send a program or an app and that should enable the apps on your calculator

How do I protect programs from deletion? So that even permanent deletion won't exactly delete it. Cheers

Your calculator comes with APPS, but probably didn't come with programs unless you've downloaded some from the TI site or linked a program from another calculator.

Your APPS or programs cannot be deleted without going through the memory mgt/del screen. In other words, you can't press APPS, arrow down to the APP and hit the delete key and delete your APP.

If for some reason you accidentally delete a TI APP or a program, I think as long as you have registered you calculator with TI, you can download the missing APP or program from their site.

To disable APPS & programs (necessary for some standardized tests). With the calculator off, hold down the left and right arrow keys at the same time then press on. A disable screen will come up and you can choose to disable them. However if you do this you will not be able to use them again until you enable them again.

To enable, link to another calculator and send an app or program from that calculator to yours. This will turn your apps and programs back on.

In order to select additional graphs, the Transformation Graphing App will need to be uninstalled from the TI-83 Plus Family and TI-84 Plus Family. Uninstalling the App does not erase it from the calculator, it disables it from interfering with the normal graphing modes. Below are the steps to successfully uninstall the App.
  • Press [APPS] key
  • Select Transfrm from the menu
  • Press 1:Uninstall
