Then scroll down the settings and edit as you please

Look at the signal strength your phone is receiving from your cell phone carrier or wireless service. You may have difficulty receiving instant messages or messages may be delayed if your phone is getting a weak signal. Move to a location in which you get better reception.
2Go into your phone's text messaging inbox. Look for any "warning" messages that your inbox is getting full. Alternately, compare the text message capacity your phone can hold with the number you currently have stored. Delete some messages to reduce the size of your inbox, as having a full inbox can result in problems receiving instant messages.
3Sign off from AIM Mobile and then sign on again with your screen name and password. This can "refresh" your status and alert your buddies that you're available for chat.
4Sign off from the regular AOL services, such as the AOL email service, if you're signed on with the same screen name that you're using with AIM Mobile. Instant messages automatically go to the AOL service and not AIM Mobile if you're using the same screen name at the same time with both services.
It's simple to create an AIM account. Simply go to www.aim.com... and click the blue link at the top corner that says 'Get a Screen Name.' From there, you just follow the instructions that the website will walk you through or To make an aol instant messenger account, you will need to go to the AIM website and click on create new account. Then you think of a name that no one else has chosen and you're all set. You can find more information here: http://www.aim.com...
you can also try checking this out:
As per the software itself
kindly go to this site:http://www.aim.com/
you can download it from that site or may chat without downloading using AIM express
If your password doesn't work There are several reasons why your password might not work:
The password you entered isn't capitalized correctly. AIM passwords are case-sensitive, so if your password is "Password," entering "password" (note the lowercase "p") won't work.
(For AOL subscribers only) You've recently changed your AOL password and are trying to use your new password with the AIM service. Even if your AOL screen name is also your AIM screen name, changing the password for one doesn't affect the other.
Go to www.aim.com and click the link 'Get a screen name' in green letters on the right side of the screen, near 'Mail'. After you create your screen name, either download the latest AIM (I highly recommend it) or just do AIM express. Have fun!

@johnsymester: Why can't we just answer any of the security questions that we setup when we first created the AIM screen name? I don't want to create a new screen name, I want my old one back that I had since high school since all my old friends are stll on it.
You can usually use AIM on your mobile phone for free. Most mobile phones come with AIM already installed. If you have GMail you can access your AIM buddy list on there and chat just like you were signed in to AIM. There is also a web access version of AIM on their website.
