Float valve in carb is leaking fuel into engine. It ususally gets in the oil, too, when this happens. clean float valve and change the oil. Or put a shutoff valve in the fuel line and close it everytiime you park it (not a good solution but it works.)

When i start mower it will rev up then down die or rev back up while blowing white smoke.last time i mowed 2 weeks ago it was fine?

The white smoke can indicate oil consumption. Was there a mixture in the gasoline? If not tthe piston rings may be affected. Also avoid gas-Ethanol mix which attracts humidity, turning into water.

Out of the blue the 2 cylinder water cooled Honda started blowing White Smoke

Does this machine use regular transmission fluid? If it does, check to see if there is a small line (normally rubber) that runs from the carb to a transmission diaphragm. If there is, disconnect the line and tap it. If trans fluid is noticeable in the line, you must replace the as it contains a rubber diaphragm inside which goes bad eventually leading to trans fluid being sucked into the carb and though the exhaust which creates large amounts of white smoke.

18.5 briggs stratton runs a few seconds then starts smokeing then stops smokeing then starts smokeing again

check the oil level see if its overfilled and smalls like gas if so the needle valve in the carb is not seating replace the needle and seat add a **** off to the fuel line and change the oil gas leaks passed the needle valve overfills the carb and drains into the cylinder and crank case run the carb out of gas by shutting off the fuel line and run it til it stalls out every time your done using it

When i start the lt1042 cub cadet riding mower it smokes from the exhaust and oil is in the carb

sounds like the needle valve inside the carb has failed dumping gas into the crankcase and into the cylinder this overfills the oil and dumps it change the valve and seat change the oil a couple times add a fuel line shut off and run the carb out of gas when your done using it the newer fuel we get melts the rubber seal

Mower started fine and ran good for 5 min. before white/blue smoke started comming from exhaust. Blade disengaged and smoke left. After a couple minutes of regular engine running heavy smoke returned.

First make sure you're not leaving your gas lever on 'choke' after starting your mower....especially if its a fairly new mower.

If its an older mower you may have a valve thats sticking and allowing too strong of a gas mixture.

If its the latter and you fancy yourself a handyman and want to tear into it...check on-line. Their are a number of web-sites that may be able to help you with your problem...such as this one:

Hope that helps you.

The smoke is oil going in to the combustion chamber, will have to check for broken rings or piston. also if the tractor was stored in a position that the oil would run to the combustion chamber it will do that untill all the oil is burn

Hard starting smokes white like gas is getting into cylinders

White smoke in a small engine is oil. Oil in the cylinder will create too much pressure for the engine to achieve compression. Make sure the engine is not getting fuel into the oil and thinning the mixture (literally smell the oil... gasoline and oil smell nothing alike, if it smells like gas, it is). If this is the case, the carb is leaking fuel into the engine, thinning the oil and causing the oil to leak past the rings into the cylinder head, through the valves and, from there, into the exhaust to burn off. Black smoke indicates a direct fuel issue in a small engine, white is oil based.
