SOURCE: how to connect power swicth on MSI RS482M4-ILD Motherboard

http://www.xpcgear.com/msirs482m4.html

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

What you need is a Front Panel header pinout.

Looking at the photo in the link above, the Front Panel header is AT the bottom corner.

Motherboard mounted in the computer case, the header of pins all the way to the Right, and Bottom, is the JLPC1 header.

The JLPC1 header is used for board level debugging by MSI, and is not used by the consumer.
[Two rows of pins. Third one from right missing, Top row ]

The header to the left of JLPC1 is the JFP1 header.
Front Panel Header. {Junction Front Panel 1 }

Two rows of pins.
4 across the Top row, 5 across the Bottom row.
The pins are numbered EVEN across the Top row.
The pins are numbered ODD on the Bottom row.

Starting from the Left side of the motherboard going right;
on the Top row,
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO pin 10.

Starting from the Left side going to the right; on the Bottom row,
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when operating, switch the two wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is N/C. Not Connected.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED.
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the Power On LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

The fact that the board is making a long beep is usually a sign of a memory problem. This may be the RAM has failed (try with one stick at a time or some new RAM ) But, it could be more serious- The memory controller can also cause the same problem. This can be on the motherboard or part of the processor. Your motherboard is now obsolete as there have been at least 2 new CPU sockets released since. You motherboard is old and so the problem is most likely to be a failed onboard memory controller. But, try the RAM first if the fault remains I would suggest a new board. Sorry!

1) Make sure that your Power Source is giving enough energy to the new Mother Board and make sure it's compatible.
2) Make sure that the new Mother Board is compatible with all of your current hardware, you can check this in the webpage from the Mother Board Company.
3) Check the voltage requirements for the Mother Board, check the BUS speed of the Mother Board and compatibility with the transfer speed of each of your current hardware.
4) It's never recommended yo change only a Mother Board since usually there's going to be problems with the rest of the hardware if it wasn't changed, if the problem persists, you'll have to buy new hardware that is compatible with your new Mother Board.
5) If you know how a BIOS works and how to configure one, you could also check the configuration in the BIOS, not sure it will work but it's worth a try if you know what you're doing.

Trying to install on windows 7

um, more information would be nice.... im assuming you are trying to install the OS its self?

1) when you boot, go to your bios options (usually f8 or f12, it says when you turn your computer on)
2) go to the boot order menu and move the CD-rom/ DVD-rom drive to boot before the hard drive (sometimes denoted as hdd)
3) place the cd in and reboot your system (after saving the changes!)

note: some motherboards have the boot menu as an option (usually f2, but it depends on the mother board manufacturer). if you see that, you can pick that option instead of the bios menu, and it will give you the choice to boot from your cd drive!

My dvd does not appear in my computer or device manager

Check the SATA/IDE connection and make sure it is securely connected to the mother board and the drive, and that the power connector is securely connected to the drive. If you cannot see the drive in the BIOS, then you have a bad drive or bad connection on the mother board.

CD ROM DETECTION PROBLEM

LEAVE YOU hard drive on primary master port on your main board set as master or single drive ( IF YOU HAVE A STATA HARD DRIVE THEN DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT PART)

SET YOUR FIRST DRIVE AS MASTER
SET THE SECOND AS SECONDARY
use the jumber in the back of the drive to set them the propper setting is labeled on the drive it self

Connect them to the secondary port on your motherboard
so you should have

HARD DRIVE - MASTER OR SINGLE *jumper settiing* connected to the primary port on your main board

DRIVE 1 = MASTER *jumper settiing*
DRIVE 2 = SLAVE *jumpersetting*
connected to the secondary port on your mother board

IF YOU HAVE A SATA HARD DRIVE FORGET THE PARTS ABOUT HARD DRIVES ABOVE
i assumed you had a IDE hard drive

JUST USE THE SETTINGS FOR THE DRIVES and it should work :)
