Question about Tomtom One XL GPS Receiver
It works fine for a while then it fades out and i have to tap it all the time to make it work
Check the battery saving settings, looks like you got the screen to go into stand by after 30 seconds or so, if your not sure how to change it do a factory reset to default settings. This would delete home address and recent destinations. Update if it doesn't work

I to had this same problem. I just about pulled my hair out. The way I fixed mine was to use Tom Tom Home to operate the Tom Tom. It was able to get past the loop and finish the initial set up. I then unhooked it from the computer and it was working by itself.

I switch it off, wait 5 minutes and then switch it back on, leaving it on the dash so it can get a clear "line" to the satellites. Usually this works quite well.

The most common problem to this is because the TomTom doesn't know it's current location. It may be that you last used your device a long distance from where you currently are now. I don't know how long you waited for the gps signal to acquire but it can take up to 10 minutes (even on military aircraft if they don't know current location).
Power it up and press on the signal strength icon. That will bring up your satellite tracking status. If it don't look like it's doing anything, then your gps has probably malfunctioned. If it looks like it's acquiring satellites, then give it a good amount of time (10-15 minutes) to see if it can find your location. I recommend doing it outside of your vehicle with no satellite obstructions to make the process go faster.
