First make sure that the CPU fan is properly connected to the motherboard. There is a connector on the motherboard that is usually labeled CPU_FAN.

If the fan is properly connected, but isn't working, a replacement can be purchased for a reasonable price. Check with Gateway or your local computer supply shop and they will be able to help you find the right fan assembly for your CPU.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

Check to make sure that all of your power connectors from the power supply are properly connected to your motherboard. On most newer motherboards, there is a 20-pin connector that supplies power to the MB, and an additional 4-pin connector.

If all of your power connections are secure, and your fan is working properly when connected to a different motherboard, then it is safe to say that the motherboard itself is faulty and needs to be replaced.

My gateway i-3 nv79 runing w7sp1 has a bad habit of shutting off with no warning ... downloaded coretemp and it seems like it is is overheating for no reason ... i can just be reading e-mail and it wi

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Gateway ML6732 Laptop Fan warning

I would replace the fan right of the bat, it has a high failure rate, also remove the heatsink to check the thermal grease is not hard, if it is, remove with rubbing alcohol and paper towel along with the processor, then apply fresh compound to both and assemble.

The CPU fan has obviously failed. You should be able to source a replacement from a good computer shop. Worth trying a warranty replacement from Gateway though.

Ijust replaced the cpu fan and now the computer won't boot - it just flashes the gateway logo

make sure that the power reqs for the fan are the same as one you replaced and make sure that the new fan is the same prong (3 or 4). Also make absolutely sure you plugged the new fan power supply inti the CPU fan slot

Gateway Profile 3se cooling fans don't start every time.

The Internal Fan On the cpu is always on correct? If so the external fans come on when the tower case has a temp higher than 85F. This is perfectly normal

hi gllwymiller;
1.check all your connections
2.check monitor and cpu power
3.when you power on your cpu, do you actually hear the fan turning or see your power led light up?
4. what OS are you using?
5. Feel the rear fan or your CPU, is it blowing out air?

Monitor keeps shutting off

it is a "CPU THERMAL SHUTDOWN"

Make sure the CPU fan is working. If there are any other fans on the motherboard, make sure they are working.
Make sure the case fan(s) are working and that there is no obstruction to the airflow into and out of the case.
Your CPU fan may be broken and you will need to buy another one.
