Question about Philips BDP3000 Blu-Ray Player
What can be done to solve this without having to buy a new blu ray player?
Nothing. the dvd deck needs to be replaced probably due to a bad optical pickup (laser). The cost of this would be more than buying a new unit.

SOURCE: No Disc?
Hi, i have one kind of this model. But i never faced this issue. in general, some DVD players wont recognise regional specific DVDs, we need to make the region free setting on DVD player. i suspect some thing like this. Please check on philips web site the region free stpes for this particular model. Thanks, Pavan

If your unit is older the optical pick up lens may be dirty or has gone bad. Most Philips units are exchange items only, meaning they replace it under warranty instead of fixing it, if its out of warranty there usually are no parts or service information on them. Philips was bought be Funai and is not the company it used to be. Check if the unit will play a audio CD, if it does the pickup assembly is bad, some will play a CD but not a DVD. You may be able to clean the p/u lens with alcohol and a Q-tip. The lens is under the clamp that holds the disc while spinning.

I'm not really an expert in this area so please dont' be mad if I say something wrong, but I do know that in order for a disc to be read by the device, a laser has to shine onto the disc and when it reflects back, that's how it is read. I don't know if something is wrong with the laser or if it's just not reading it for some odd reason but maybe if you want it fixed you might would want to send it into the company or buy a new one.

Do you leave the unit on all day and night on standby?
If this unit gets to hot you can experience this problem I suggest that you turn the power OFF totally until the unit cools down and try again. Normally 15 mins is enough.
