Kitchen Aid display blank, door locked after self clean cycle

Kitchen Aid Model KRGK806PSS00. We ran the self clean cycle. Before it was done, the display went blank. The oven door remains locked. Circuit breaker (house) not tripped and stovetop igniters still work. Serial XS0209984

I tried unplugging for over an hour to reset it to no avail.

  • pdvitalis Mar 15, 2009

Thanks, I suspected as much. Is it possible that there's a fuse or reset on the controller board or is total replacement the only option?

  • pdvitalis Mar 15, 2009

I got stuck in disassembly. I got the visible screws removed from the front cover but the valve shafts seem to get in the way when I swing the panel out and up. Any thoughts?

You can take the side off the unit and unlock the door manual. But don't break the switch. The back and top come off this unit. But make sure you have it unplug from power first.

I misunderstood you on this .This is oven in the wall. But you can still take the back off and get door unlocked.I know because I've done that before. Thanks

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description of 'no display' and 'door locked' are both significant. It indicates that the electronic controller board has failed. This board is responsible for the logical processing of user commands, internal sensors, activating/deactivating components and displaying status. The board comes as an assembly and replacing it would require familiarity with electrical wiring, electronic components and circuitry and dis-assembly of some of the panels/covers. In most versions, the electronic controller board is right behind the display panel.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Appreciate the FixYa rating and your postback.

To my knowledge, there are no fuses nor any breakers/reset specifically for the electronic controller board. Am afraid assembly replacement is required.

unplug the unit for an hour, or better turn off the main circuit breaker, then start again the unit

I have a whirpool energy star washer and the door is stuck in lock position. The lights that are on are spin and door lock

If you remove the bottom panel under the door, you can see a lever or tab that will allow you to open the door. Before you do that though, there is a drain plug that is visible. Remove the plug and get ready for WATER to come out. Have towels or wet vacuum cleaner ready. There will be a filter trap that is in the drain. Clean it out too.

Door locked with flashing red light on model W10578789

This might work try unplugging it for about 45 -60 seconds and see if it clears the problem. The red light is some type of warning and I would be safe in saying it is a safety device gone bad. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I have a whirlpool cabrio washer for a while now here and there i was pulling out soaking wet clothes.and ofcourse my warranty ran out yesterday and now it will not start any cycle all its does is sense...

This particular washer has a test that we can run to see any errors. This can be confusing on this model.
I am including a document below that will describe how to view the old error codes. Use the section that starts with Activating the service diagnostic modes. You can start with the cycle selector knob at any position.
  1. Be sure the washer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off).
  2. Perform the following sequence of movement using the cycle selector knob. NOTE: After reset, sequence "a" through "e" must be completed within 6 seconds. When it tells you to rotate the cycle selector knob, it means 1 click, not a full turn. Once you have completed the cycle knob turns reset and "a" through "e", turn the cycle selector 1 click clockwise from the position it is already in. This is the fault code display mode. Then press the start button. Each time you turn the cycle selector knob 1 click clockwise after pressing start will show you an error code. Note: this washer stores 4 codes if any. The error codes on this washer are displayed in this format: F5 E3, F7 E1, etc. There is an error code chart in the image below.
If there are no error codes stored, I recommend that you start from the beginning (step 1 above) and then run the Automatic test mode. If this unit detects a problem, it will display the error at the end of this test.
Here is a list for the errors.
Post back your results.

Burner lights and shuts off 3 times and then give warning lights A and B

It depends on the model but AB on most of the AOS the A & B LED's lighting up usually means ignition/flame failure.

Ignition/flame failure:

The gas control valve/thermostat has reached the maximum number of retries (3) for ignition and is currently locked out for one hour. Cycle the power to the water heater off and on to reset.

Basic troubleshooting/solutions:

1 Ensure flame sensor is making good contact with the burner flame and ensure flame is steady. Also ensure supply and manifold gas pressures are within the requirements in the installation manual.

2 Gas supply is turned off - pressure is too low. For low gas pressure, consult with your gas utility.

3 Ensure the flame sensor is clean - use fine steel wool to clean the flame sensor.

4 Check igniter assembly plug and the socket on the bottom of the gas control valve/thermostat for good connection. Replace igniter assembly if the plug is worn or damaged. Replace the gas control valve/thermostat if socket is worn or damaged.

5 Replace igniter assembly.

If this does not apply to your model then here is a link to the instruction manuals for all models:

Sometimes water doesn't get hot.

Clean the air filter even if it looks clean. The air filter is located in the front panel(unscrew knob to open door)...filter looked ok to me but cleaned it under water and that fixed the problem. Note: I cleaned the water filter first and that did not solve the problem. A simple test to see if the air filter is the problem...take the panel door off, press the filter door button and test hot water usage.
