SOURCE: Picture in Black & White
if you are using composite cables (yellow, red & white), make sure your yellow (video cable) is into the yellow output. if you plugged the wire into the green on the back of the dvd it will give you a black & white picute. But if it is in the yellow then you most likely have a problem with the dvd player that will need to be taken to a service center.

If you are using the s-video jack to connect the DVD to the TV, the jack could be loose or the wire could be bad. The s-video cable has 2 signals, the black-and-white (luminance) and the color (chroma). If the chroma signal is not getting through, the picture will be in black and white.

Try the program Sub2Divx (I have the same DVD sony dvp-ns67p worked properly). It takes just 2 minutes to put the subtitle in divx and is not fixed, only appears when tight subtitle on the remote control. I have a link to a tutorial but it is in Portuguese. SOURCE: Only black and white
If you are playing different region dvds, they can be of different color formats also
(US = NTSC, Europe = PAL). If your television is not multi-format then non-compatible
DVDs will play black and white. The solution is to purchase a mutli-format TV (accepts
both PAL and NTSC formats)

Check your cables to your TV. If possible check the various cables to your set. I would suggest using the HDMI cable if your TV has an HDMI input. Remember to power off all devices before connecting your cables. If I may ask which cable are you using to connect between your Tv and the DVD player?
