SOURCE: craftsman 42" riding lawn mower blade free spinning but wont cut

It sounds to me that you need a new mower deck drive belt, or your blades need sharpening. If the blade edges are rounded, they won't cut butter... Also, when mower is off, check mower deck drive pulleys to make sure you don't have any that are locked up or are dragging. You can check this by pulling the belt away from pulley and spinning the pulley by hand. MOWER MUST BE OFF before attempting any of these checks. You would be surprised how many people would try this with the mower running.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: what oil grade do I use in my 20hp huskavarna riding mower

use a good grade of automotive engine oil which is called 10w30 weight.

measure the amount of oil that you drain out so you will know approximately how much new oil to put in. then check your dip stick and adjust to get the exact amount of oil.

get some one to sit on it and holding the brake try engaging the clutch...now with out getting to close laying down you can see if the linkage is working right....might just be a missed belt wheel.

SOURCE: 2003 DLT3000 Craftsman riding mower. Air in tires

when you put the new blades on did you notice if they were even with each other? the 42" decks have a tendency to "warp" inward on the left side. this causes the left blade to ride at an angle to the right blade - there is a tool to correct this, but not all shops have it - sometimes you can remove the deck, flip it over and wallop the inside edge of the left mandrel until the blades are even - a 2 lb. sledge works well for this

- Change spark plugs

My mower keeps overheating

Make sure the engine has no garbage around it such as grass and leaves. All air passages need to be clear. Clean grease and oil off the unit also will help it run cool Make sure the oil is up where it should be. Do you change the oil? Do you over work the mower for it's size
Trying to cut in a hurry will over work the unit in long grass

I too have had that same problem. I found that "old" blades when repeatidly sharpened and worn will cause the same problem, also aftermarket blades instead of original manufactures recommended blades may not be dimensionally correct, too short. I have had to go back to using original blades to correct the problem.
This should work for you.
Good luck.

I have a Simplicity Zero-Turn 20 hp 50" cut. Just recently when mowing I have "clumps" of grass all over the yard. Any idea what would cause this? Also, the mower is supposed to stipe the lawn - I have...

Hi, well you have the cutter too close to the ground, try raising it up a couple of notches.
Now as for the "clumps" on the lawn. Well IF you mean GROWING clumps, that's because the mower is dumping the cut grass in a pile, somewhat, and that's adding nutrients to that particular Patch, and it simply grows faster because it's got more "Food".

If you mean, CUT grass patches, then again your Cutter is Too Close to the ground, and it's dragging the cut grass, and then when it gets too much, it is "packeting" the cut grass, every now an again when it builds up and is left in "piles" instead of being evenly distributed, and driven into the ground, behind the mower.

My Bolens riding lawn mower wouldn't start.

I will attempt to help you figure this out. On a sidenote; the shop I work at offers pick up and delivery services, Im sure a shop near you would too.
First make sure you have good fuel in the tank and that any fuel valves are open, check your oil and make sure it is full. If your oil is overfull and very thin and runny that could be an indication of your problem. REmove the airbox cover and air filter.
Once we've covered that lets get on with diagnosing it. Will the motor turn over but it just wont start? Does the motor make a half crank then stop? Will it not do anything at all?
Answers to those questions and any other pertinent information will help me guide you in a direction to figuring out the problem. Figuring these things out is simple if you take it step by step.

Is this the first time cutting grass with a lawn tractor?
How tall of grass?
Use the grass cutting heigth adjustments on the tractor to a higher setting when cutting tall grass. Cut again to a lower height setting on the second pass. Grass higher than your tractor is not good for your tractor. Follow the manual instructions for best results.

Either the belt routing is incorrect or there is a tensioner which needs adjusting. Recheck your belt installation. Oh, it could be the wrong belt, too.
