Sorry to hear about your HP problems.
Your wireless mouse or touch pad controls are located on the touch pad and if you look at the top right of touch pad, when the mouse is on, it will shine blue, when off, it will shine orange.

Simply hit the push button on the top right of your touch pad to activate.
Hope this information has helped you. ??

Nothing works unless I hold down the shift key

Hello!
Please plug in an external keyboard (available at Best Buy; bring PC, use a demo keyboard), THEN turn power on.
Do you need to hold the shift key down on the EXTERNAL keyboard?
If no then the laptop keyboard reeds to be removed, cleaned and carefully replaced to test.
If problem still exists it needs to be replaced UNLESS there is a kink in the internal cable, which the keyboard connects with.
Not a complicated replacement, tedious on some, but five minutes should do it. Getting the keyboard OUT and IN is where the labor may lie. Some are very simple, others: out with the hard drive, out with the ram, and all those 50 or so screws... sticking to the bottom on one's shoes...
Please return and let me know! There are other things to try!
Thanks!

Go to support.hp.com and look up your computer.
Download and install the Vista drivers.
If you don't see Vista drivers the computer won't run Vista. Go back to XP.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Try to press Fn + Num Lock or Fn + Scrl lock to check if they keyboard will respond. If it doesnt. try to turn off the computer, remove the cables and battery, press/hold the power button for 8 secs. Reinsert cables and battery then turn on the pc. Press again Fn + Num Lock or Fn + Scrl lock. If the keyboard still did not respond, go to the device manager . Click Start > right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager . Then click the (+) on Keyboards, right click the device and uninstall it. Then, go back to the device manager and right click Keyboard then click Scan for hardware changes. Then press FN + Num Lock or Fn + Scrl lock. If symptom persists, call HP to replace your keyboard.

My number keys arent working because i was hold shift for more than eight seconds the a message popped up then i clicked ok

Try holding down the shift key again for 8 seconds and read the window to cancel the filter keys.

As for your numbers not working, there is a NumLock [number lock] key on your keyboard. Try hitting that and see if your numbers work.

Hope this helps.

I just figured this out. Hold down your left shift key, then press CTRL. It may take a couple of times for it to work, but it will eventually.
