Question about Nintendo DS Lite
Hi, it may be that the top screen ribbon cable has come unseated from the clasp and may just need undoing the black clip, pulling out the cable and putting it back in but unless you have taken these consoles apart are tricky and delicate. Most probably needs new screen tho to be honest. screens are only about 7.50 but require soldering skills for speakers, a steady hand and patience. google or YouTube replacement top screen ds lite for videos. I have done 100's. I charge between 12-15 to replace.

SOURCE: red ds lite screen
When the screen has a red hue there are two possibilities:
The screen is broken or the connector has moved.
The "water" is in fact the liquid crystal diplay that is broken.
Replacing the screen will cost about € 20
Here you can find the instructions:

Hi this is a very common problem with all ds's and phones that flip and slide, the problem is with the ribbon that connects the top screen to the circuit board in the bottom, now every time you open and close the ds this ribbon bends so as it keeps the connection with the screen.
now inside this ribbon is several single strand copper wires and over time these become brittle and then one or two will break, now as this is such a common problem it makes the part cheap to buy and cheap to have fitted, all you need to do is take it into a computer repair shop or some phone shops offer this service as well and ask them to replace this ribbon, they should be able to do it whilst you wait and if not it should be done the next day.
this is a cheap repair to have done so it is worth getting it fixed.
let me know if you need further assistance ok
plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks
