Are you using vista? If so
Cick on Start
Computer
Local Disc "C" AND "D" will show up
Right click on Disc"C"
Click on OPEN
All your folders and files in there will show up
BE VERY CAREFUL what you look at in here
Right click on anything that you dont need and Delete it
ONLY DELETE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I IS AND YOU DONT NEED IT

NO JOY? LET ME KNOW

I have a cd of win7 i want to install is this order correct says RAM vs ROM it runs winxp no probs its just time to upgrade i dont wanna mess up. Thank u very much for any help i can get.

Have you saved everything from you Windows XP system, because Windows 7 will probably wipe everything clean?

To your question, you do have them in the correct order. It will search the CD/DVD first, if it can't find anything, then it will go to the next one, which is the hard drive.

Good luck,

Paul

C drive is almost empty but d drive full

You might already have the setting where your backups will be saved in D drive and hence it is full now. You can now reset the settings and change it by C drive. By the way, C drive is by default the drive in which your OS and its related files are stored and nothing else.

Clicking noise like sounds like a clock ticking wanna no how to stop it wen it typing aswell

The clicking noise is possibly the reader arm skipping across the platters on your hard drive a dirty hard first clean all of the dust from your computer using a fine air blower using a vacuum cleaner with no metal piping you might short your motherboard out if metal touches anything or a fine air blower from a compressor making sure there is no MOISTURE in the air line then give the hard drive a firm tap on one side to free up the read arm you could run the check disk utility Click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which willscan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive don't do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer it might be power or data trying to get a connection make sure all power and data leads are securely attached

if this fails you might have a dirty hard driver with the reader arm skipping across the platters on your hard drive

give the hard drive a firm tap on the side to free up the reader arm you might be able to get it going long enough to salvage your data or it might go for a longer time

or you might use the freeze hard drive

Hope this helps.

I need to clean up my computer

Goto C: drive icon in My Computer. Then click on Properties, then click Disk Cleanup. There is also on option to clean all but the latest restore point, that saves a lot of hard drive space.

You can also defragment your hard drive which sorts all the files out so that when a file is accessed it finds all of it at once, instead of finding fragments and putting them all together. Files are not usually stored all in one but are spread around the drive, taking longer to find the fragmented bits. It also consolidates all the free space for faster writing to the drive.

You can also go in to MSCONFIG and click the Startup tab and see what programs are running. Anything in there automatically starts running as soon as Windows starts. You can dissable the ones that you know don't need to be running. Not things like Antivirus, Firewall or anything to do with Internet though.

Go to the start menu and type msconfig in the search / run box and press Enter. When you have unticked the ones you dont want running restart the computer.

You will probably get a box pop up when you have restarted saying that you have been in to the configuration settings etc. Just tick the little box on the left that says Don't show this again or whatever it says.

You could also uninstall any programs that you don't actually use.
Go to the Control panel and click on Add and Remove Programs for Windows XP, or Programs and Features in Windows 7.

If it's just got slow gradually, cleaning up usually helps a bit.

If you just want it to be a bit faster then maybe it can have more Ram fitted on the motherboard, that helps, also upgrading the processor, and a faster hard drive will help.

You can also use a little program called CCleaner whhich searches the hard drive for all the rubbish left over from uninstalled programs, unused files, temporary files that are no longer needed etc. It's a free program and very popular.

You can also clean the registry which gets rid of a lot of rubbish left in there. There is an option in CCleaner whhich will do that.

Hope this helps.

Laptop has lost dvd.. it can not open or play anything

if you want to save the autoplay option to certain drives (e.g. CD/DVD drives) ... I have problem with hard disk, It is not open when I double click. ... If you cannot find the file, it's probably because windows lost it or you have a virus. ..... I still wanted my CD-ROM to use this feature but not anything else. ...

Windows wont start

Try to get into the setup, if you can't see anything in the screen when powering on, it's probably a motherboard/electronic/hardware problem. Suggestion -> Replace the machine and buy brand (DELL, SONY, ACER, TOSHIBA, IBM, LENOVO).
If you can get to the setup, go to the boot section and put the DVD Drive in first place, save and quit, put your windows recovery CD in the drive and recover.
If you can't recover, format the machine and do a clean install.
If you can't format, probably you have a bad hard drive, replace and reinstall OS.

MY LAPTOP STARTS UP FINE IT TILL IT GETS TO RESUMING WINDOWS THEN I GET A BLANK SCREEN WITH A BINKING CURSOR IN THE CORNER I HAVE TRYED SAFE MODE DONT WORK PLEASE HELP

Get a 'Live CD' off the internet, There are also images you can out on a USB drive. These are complete operating systems. It does not matter what one you get. They will boot up and everything will run fine if the hardware is OK. It will allow you to examine and copy your hard drive also. Just Google for live USB or get the Live USB Windows XP image at http://www.downarchive.com/software/operating/7468-windows-xp-live-usb-edition-2009.html. You can scan the drive for errors and copy off your documents. If the hard drive has errors you can use SpinRight to temporarly repair the errors, it works most of the time very well.
