Press the F2, and laptop will go to the bios where you will be able to change the boot order from the hard drive to the optical drive.

When in the bios screen, go to "boot" and highlight the optical drive. Press F6, and the optical drive should move to the first boot position.

None of these. If that is all the bios is recognizing, then you either have a bad cd/dvd, or it is not completely seated into the socked. I would guess that it is a bad one, and they are very inexpensive to replace. Only one screw holds it in, and a replacement dvd/rw is about $25 us.

Change your boot order in bios

Whenever the computer shows an error like "No operating system found" Or "no boot device found" the fix could be simple. If not a fix it definitely narrows the problem down. All you have to do is go into bios and change the order of the devices your computer tries to boot from.

Most computers have three boot devices.

1- CD-Rom
2- U.S.B. thumb drive or network drive
3- Hard drive

To change these and many other things is quite simple. There are special keystrokes to access bios. To find out which one applies to you watch your computer screen when you first boot your computer. The first logo or name you see (normally) is your bios. It will say Phoenix, Or Intel or something along those lines. After that when the computer first starts to boot you have to press the required keys and then the bios screen loads.

I have to stress one issue. We get a lot of questions here on Fixya about how to change the bios password. This cannot be done here. So
PLEASE DO NOT SET A BIOS PASSWORD!

If you forget this password you cannot load your computer. You will have to take it apart and reset it manually If possible.

For the directions and on screen pictures about settings in bios follow the link below. Remember, this is a VERY tempermental part of your computer. If you don't feel comfortable making changes in here don't change anything until you ask someone and you are sure about the results.

When i start my laptop it shows that error loading operating system with black screen and it cannot boot window xp cd????????????

This means that the system files are corrupt or that the system can not locate the device with the operating system on it.
Boot your laptop while pressing F2 and go to the System BIOS. In the BIOS look for boot order or boot sequence. Then select the HARD Disk Drive to be the first booting device and let the CD Drive be the second one and press F10 to save and exit. Observe the results, If it gives you an error message again, try to go back to the BIOS and load Default System settings and restart your laptop again.

If you try all this and you still have the same problem, then organize an XP CD and change the boot device to CD Drive. This will let your laptop boot from the CD. When the CD loads, press enter and after accepting the license agreement (by pressing F8) select "R" to repair your operating system.
NOTE: Do not press "R" as soon as the CD finishes loading because this will induse the Automated Repair, and that is not what we want here....
Man, this will work you out of your trouble. Good luck

Sounds like you may have to change the boot up drive in your bios.
To enter you bios, you have hit Del or an F key as your computer begins to boot up (watch the screen, it should tell you).
Once you've entered your bios, you have to find where in the bios it allows you to set the order of boot devices. This is commonly under "Power Up" options or on the more recent BIOSes, it'll be under "Boot Devices." Once you're there, refer to the on screen instructions on how to change the order. The most common ways are using the page up/down keys, the +/- keys or the left and right arrows. Set your Seagate Barracuda to be the first place it boots from and you should be able to boot from it.

Ok try this, at boot up press F8, when the Menu comes up, choose Safe Mode, but this time instead of going to the desktop, choose System Restore, follow instructions, and when the Calender type window comes up, simply choose a time BEFORE, the time it went faulty. This should completely restore you to working again. As long as there are NO other problems.

Screen black on reboot

start the computer and when the computers splash screen shows (dell) etc. tap the F8 key repeatedly until you see the multiple startup choices. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" and select it, you will see the operating system listed as the target operating system, click that (hit enter) start in safe mode. When it boots do you see the screen with no problem? if so then the resolution may be wrong on the normal start up. On the dektop in a clear area free of icons, right click and scroll down to properties, click on settings, then move the resolution slider to either 800 X600 or 1028 X 768. click on yes to change the settings, restart the computer by hitting start > Turn off computer > restart. Reboot it normal mode (just let it boot as you would normally) If you can see the screen, you are all set, if not there is another issue to deal with.

Monitor comes on for seconds and then goes black

This may be because the resolution that is set in your user profile when you log on has been changed to a resolution not supported by the monitor. The best way to fix this is by going into Safe Mode (press F8 as the computer starts to load Windows) and change it to a lower resolution once you get logged in. 1024X768 is a pretty safe resolution to start with. Then restart and see if that fixes the issue.

Computer saying error loading operating system

You can configure your boot setup from your bios screen (for dell, either F11 or F12) then set up your optical drive as your 1st priority then, save settings. After that, you need to insert your windows XP cd in order for it to boot.

inform me of what happened after you have done this.
