How to fix Yamaha PSR 400 dead keys?

I have this old yamaha keyboard that has already dead keys. I am trying to figure out how to fix them. I can't afford to buy a new Yamaha keyboard, so if someone can help me, that would be really great

I had also this kind of problem. I got my psr400 from a junk and i want to revive it. some of the keys are dead and some are on a high volume even when touched lightly, then displays on the screen "batt" and it freezes and there's no sound at all when you touch the keys. Your only option is to turn it off and then on again then when you hit that loud key its the same problem again. I'm planning to open it and clean the contact points myself and see the difference.

Normally this would be from dirty or broken key contacts.

There is no need for a manual. It is so easy to operate because it is designed for easy opeating. If you need a manual to operate the PSR-510 then you really won't be able to operate it even after studying the manual. But here it is just in case you can by some miracle!

You have to completely remove the circuit boards. If this is the keyboard I'm thinking of then the keys are all mounted on the same part like parts on the sprue in a model airplane kit. If its a different one then you have to remove the assembly and take the spring of the key you want and at the other end when you flip it over there is a strip glued on the metal frame to secure the keys that you have to peel off for that sector.

On page 155 it looks like the only input for device(s) in a 1/4" mono jack for microphone or guitar, not stereo that would be needed for iPod. However, if you could set the iPod to mono output, this 1/4" input would work for you.

Yamaha Piaggero NP12 all "A" and "Eflat" keys are dead.

If all A & Eb are dead it would point to either a bad connection between the keyboard circuit and the motherboard ( ribbon cable ) or possible diode problems on the keyboard PCB.

Initially open up and check connections are all tight and correct.
Did this just happen or has the keyboard been opened up?

Dead keys yamaha psr e413 keyboard

Dead keys on Yamaha PSR e413 keyboard: Flip keyboard upside down, remove cover screws (use marked cardboard template to remember where they came out), spray suspect key-contacts with fast-drying contact cleaner, (usually a PCB with a matrix of contacts under keys), re-assemble base cover, wiggle faulty keys as far as possible to 'scrub' any dirt or oxidization. If this cleaning trick doesn't work, get a pro to check it.

That's the thing with today's electronic and why warranty length is so important. Where did you buy your keyboard? It's strange that they won't fix it if it's still under warranty. My Casio CTK-2100 came with 1 year free service and they fix one key that stopped function in few days. I'm pretty sure Yamaha has the same warranty length. You sometimes have to be very persistent with them though...

Hi, i think you can. You can go to any of the Yamaha companies around you area and explain to them the problem of the keyboard. They will give you good and quality replacement part for your Keyboard.

Make sure you go to only Yamaha company to avoid getting a wrong part for your Keyboard.Avoid road siderepairsforissue like this,it's more complicated to handle

I guess that will do.

Thanks for using fixya...
