Ok, that blinking red light is a power supply malfunction. you could swap the good power supply with another from the spare systems you have there or, you could send to Sony for complete repair. the do it yourself is risky but cheaper.

Fix PS3 - Why you need to buy a PS3 Repair Guide

85fcdbc.jpg

When trying to fix your broken PS3 console there are two main options at your disposal. Firstly, you could send it off to Sony and have them fix the problem. This process takes up to 5 weeks and can cost around $150, if the warranty on your PS3 has expired. Therefore, the option of fixing your PS3 yourself is much better as it takes less than an hour and costs less than $50. In this Fixya Tip you are going to learn the answers to some of the most commonly asked PS3 repair guide eBook FAQS.

1. What Exactly Is A PS3 Repair Guide?

A PS3 repair guide is basically a walk through of the steps you need to take to be able to fix a wide range of errors on your console. These errors include (but are not limited to) things such as the yellow light of death, the red screen error, Blu-Ray drive not reading disks properly, crashing and freezing during gaming and just about anything else in between.

2. Why Do I Need One?

You need a PS3 repair guide eBook because your console is a complex piece of electronic engineering and you therefore need the right knowledge and information to be able to work on it. Nobody wants to risk damaging their console, and because a repair guide shows you exactly how to fix your broken PS3 safely you don’t have to risk damaging it.

3. How Do I Get A Repair Guide?

Most PS3 repair guides come in eBook format, which means that are a digital download that you open on your computer. A lot of them also have accompanying websites where you can access more videos, updates and request support/advice from the product owner. Be wary of any "free" downloads, or ones pirated on Torrent websites, as these often contain viruses and other nasties. Some unscrupulous characters even go as far as showing you methods that will actually damage your PS3 even more, then suggest that you send your console off to them so they can fix it for an exorbitant price. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for!

4. What Features Should I Look For?

Because there is such a diverse range of different PS3 repair products out there, it can often be difficult to know exactly what you ought to look out for. However, there a are a few basic guidelines that can help to make the whole process much easier. Firstly, a good PS3 repair guide eBook needs to have video instructions that you can follow along to, not just text and/or pictures. Secondly, there needs to be free customer support available in case you have any difficulties whilst trying to fix your broken PS3. A price of less than $50 is also something you should look out for, as there are plenty of good products out there for less than this mark.

5. Are There Any Recommended PS3 Repair Products?

There are a number of very well researched and produced PS3 repair guide eBooks out on the market these days that have been created by electronics professionals. However, there is one guide that is ahead of the rest. Please check out the Link to learn about the best PS3 repair guide eBook, including a full review of the product and comparison with its competition.

Blinking yellow light

Hello there scdevaney

If you have the brief flashing yellow light, then its followed by a red blinking light then you have the yellow light of death AKA the YLOD.

The lights are a warning sign to let you know something is wrong. I can give you the quick explanation, There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose connection with the motherboard and you get the YLOD.

WHERE TO GO FROM HERE

Option 1 - Call Sony

In warranty the Price is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150, the whole process is 4-6 weeks

You can call Sony and they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back to you

Option 2 - Fix it your Self

You can use a PS3 fix manual to get this fixed easily and at home using household tools you probably already own.

Click here to know more on PS3 Fix Manuals which has helped so many people like you.

Good luck

Best regards

1) Canned Air. Get a can with a mini straw and blow it out pretty good. If it's giving you problems, blow out the ventallation ports as well.
2) Disc Cleaner. Best buy makes a disc cleaner that looks like a DVD. This is not the best way to go but it might work. Ask an employee what they recommend using.
3) Q-tip. If you have already opened it; or are past waranty and desperate to get it cleaned, open up the console and with a Q-tip dipped in a very small amount of rubbing alcohol (make sure it's not wet, just damp) SUPER LIGHTLY give the laser one good rub.
Please make sure you're giving it a good means of ventallation and ensure to never put it on carpet.

When I switch my PS3 on, it just switches itself off to 'stand by'. I did have another problem with the PS3 in the summer 2009 when my driver went and sent it to Sony to fix it. I had this problem since...

if there is a flash of a yellowish light and then followed by a blinkin red light read on:
You have the dreadful blinking red light of death. Long story short the system is broken due to overheating and heat damage to the motherboard and you have a few options:

  1. (do what you have already done and) send the system to sony and receive a refurbished system for $150.
  2. find a local to do it for much cheaper
  3. watch vids on the web (youtube.com) and fix it yourself but it is fairly difficult.
  4. buy a new ps3.
I hope I have helped and please feel free to ask me any questions and let me know how it goes.

No power is reaching my ps3 from any plug. Wen I flick the on switch nothing happens

Have you checked the fuse in the PS3 plug?

If you have and it still doesnt work, it sounds like the internal PSU may be dead and unfortunatly you'lll eaither have to contact sony for a repair or try and fix it yourself.

I've seen new PSU's on ebay for around £50 and it doesnt look too difficult to do, I think the hardest part is actually getting inside the PS3 case.

Cheers for now
