Question about Magic Chef CER3740 Electric Kitchen Range

Open Question

Elements won't heat

Not the product I listed as my model was not avavilabe. Old stove (probably 1985) Have the old manual and it says Magic Chef Electric Range Model 35FA-92LX. Surface and oven elements won't heat. Just stopped working one day. electricity still flowing to unit as oven light is working, but not the surface/oven indicator lights. unit is plugged in properly, circuit breaker not tripped.
I removed and reinserted all surface burners just to be sure they were inserted properly.

SOURCE: oven not working (lighting) on magic chef stove top/oven

look at the burners in the oven, they usually go bad where they hook to the unit,it will look like a peice is missing.if this is not the case, a wire is loose in your breaker and you're running on 110 instead of 220

SOURCE: gas oven won"t stay lit

you eaither have a bad regulator from the tank to the house or you have a bad appliance regulator behind your appliance you would need to check the pressure at the appliance if it is propane you should have between 10-14'' of water colum or if it is nat-gas it should be 4-7'' of w/c

Replacing element in an old Chef Auto 600 Oven

Good news!
You probably can do this yourself.
Most appliance parts stores will "demand" you give them a model number, but if you find an appliance store that has a smarter older employee, he or she can probably give you the right one by seeing the old one.
Also know the element may be fine.
Older appliances sometimes have bad wires from old age.
When you take this apart, look carefully at the wires that are connected to the socket that the element plugs in to.
You may find the only thing wrong is a bad wire.
Know also that wire connectors for high heat things like stoves are sometimes made stainless steel, for the high heat.
God bless your efforts.

I just moved in my condo with a magic chef gas stove/oven without a manual. I tried to use the broiler but I can't seem to make it start after pressing the button "broil". It is about 10 or 11...

Hello Bocsabh,

The model number will either be inside the door of the oven on the face usually and/or is located at the rear/back of the item. There should me a model and serial number listed on the plate. Once this information is found it will be alot esier to help you with your current problem.

Please post back to this thread and I will be glad to help you.

I have the same problem with my new magic cheff over the stove microwave oven. I call magic chef and they gave me the 800 number for the service center (1-800-775-0202). When I described the problem they told me to just put a plate under the popper and this wouldn't happen anymore. I haven't tried it yet but here's hoping.

Replacement Parts For Vintage Magic Chef stove

You probably have a 1940's model of Magic Chef. Check for the model number under the lid of the cook top on the upper right hand side of the stove. It should have the model number and the serial number, too. You will need both. The Old Applicance Club run by Jack Santoro is the place to go along with a site called "Antique gas stoves"in Georgia. Good luck with the world of vintage stoves.
