Garage door opener won't go down

My garaage door was working fine. Yesterday after I opened it and try to close, it won't close. I open and check it motor is fine, but look like it working one way up only not the other way down. I checked stopper tongue blade it was fine when blade touched upper stopper. I guess ther some thing went wrong with PC board?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi there, First start with the easy stuff. Is there anything blocking the "eyes"? If so clear a path for the infered beam, second actuate the hard wired push button on wall near door to insure freedom of movement. Thirdly manuely actuate the limit switches by hand if you have them on the rail system. older doors can and do have limit switches that can become stuck expectually if there is alot of dust and debre in the air. what model do you have?

Lift master formula I will not close, only goes half way down, but fully opens. Worked fine until my wife closed the door on the car, after that it would fully close

I had this problem as well with the door opening just fine but was not closing when using the remotes or when breifly pressing the wall mounted control. The door would close only when using the wired wall mount control. I have experienced this problem with other garage door openers I've had in my previous homes and it was always caused by sensors at the bottom of the door tracks being either misaligned or the lenses were dirty. In this case, and it was just a moment ago today, I simply cleaned the sensor lenses and then the door began to function properly. Give it a try.

I have liftmaster garage door opener P/N 41A-5483-4. It worked normally. but all of sudden, when door closing, it reverses automatically at half way down, and garage door light bulb starts blicking 6...

Use the pull cord and disconnect the opener from the door. Operate the opener and let the carrier slide back away from the door. Is the carrier moving smoothly when disconnected? Next, lift the door by hand from the bottom to the top. Is it moving smoothly? If not, lubricate the axles of all the rollers on both sides of the door. Check the cable pulleys at the top sides of the door channel, lubricate them as well. Are all cables in all the pulleys, there are 4. After checking those things, there is a "up force" and "down force" adjustment on the opener, try increasing the "up force" by turning the adjustment in the direction of MORE force.

When the temp gets colder, I seem to start experiencing trouble with my garage door. It lets up fine but when its time to close it, the lights flash quickly and will not close. what could be the issue??

I recommend this to everyone with garage door opener problems:

Use the pull cord and disconnect the opener from the door.

Operate the opener and let the carrier slide back away from the door. Is the carrier moving smoothly when disconnected?

Next, lift the door by hand from the bottom to the top. Is it moving smoothly?

If not, lubricate the hubs of all the rollers on both sides of the door.

Every time I push the opener button the chain goes about an inch and stops abruptly. The door is not able to be opened or closed as a result. Is this an adjustment problem?

Disconnect the opener from the door.
Lift the door and ensure that it moves freely from fully open to fully closed.
Try to operate the opener. Does it go all the way from open to cloosed?
If the door operates smoothly and the opener works without the door connected, check the up/down force adjustment on the body of the opener.

All of a sudden my garage door motor will not run, only clicks when pressing wall button or remote. garaage door moves manually.

Sounds like the trolley is stopped up against the stop bolt on the rail. This comes from bad limits. This happens often on older Chamberlain/Sears/Liftmaster etc openers.

Garage door opener will not respond to security plus remotes

Reset the Liftmaster unit. There should be a red reset button on the unit in the garage. If this does not work, reset the breaker. Good Luck!

Garage door won't close

Check if there is a shadow being cast onto one of the sensors as the door closes. We've had the rope for manually closing the door cast a shadow in full sun and trigger the "something crossed the beam" safety reverse. (Our temporary solution was to cast a shadow that remained constant from outside the door.)

Similarly check if there are any weeds or grass that are being blown or bent into the opening as the door closes. If there are plants in or near the doorway, trim them or use an herbicide to kill them and then trim the top growth after the plant dies.

Garage door won't stay closed

Check the down limit:
If the light bulb(s) on your operator are on the front and/or back, the limit adjustment screw is on the left side of the operator (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door).. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the limit adjustment screw is on the left side (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door)
