My retrolink n64 controller doesn't work on my mac

2 different ways to hook up a n64 1 way is 3 cables 1st white 1 yellow 1 red used for n64 gamecube and super nintendo systems. 2nd way and the way mine is hooked up it is like a plug for cable but for n64 / gamecube only mine is from madcatz

Dust the keyboard to remove any debris.
If that doesn't work, re-seat the keyboard. This requires disassembling much of the laptop. www.ifixit.com has great guides on how to complete this for every model of mac laptop.

Do not move/touch the joysticks on the controllers while turning on the system.

Well it might be that if your tv runs on digital cable like mine then the rf switxch part wont work then so I tried mine on the tvs in the basemant at my Aunt Gails house and the rf switch for N64 works there so you could use the av cables then instead of the rf switch.

You now need to find a channel on your TV that ins't used for anything else (eg an old vhs player or non-digital tv) then whilst on that channel you need to go into your TV's menu, there is often a button both on the remote and TV itself for this. This is where you turn on your N64 if you haven't already. You then will need to go onto automatic tuning (or if you prefer, manual tuning, in the programme section (if you dont have a programme section, just srcoll through each section till you find automatic tuning) your TV should then start to search for channels, after a little while of searching it should find the N64's frequency it may be a terrible picture that is mostly fuzz you can either carry on the tuning to see if it'll find it better or just head straight to fine tuning (if you decied to keep going you can still fine tune for the best picture quality possible and also if the TV doesn't find it just follow the previous steps till it locates the N64 again) once fine tuned you will need to store this new channel and then you can go ahead and enjoy countless hours of fun on the worlds best gaming console. - First you need a rather old TV, like maybe before 2002, if you have one. Because on newer TVs N64 graphics are terrible !

- Once you have your TV, check to see if you have two cables with your 64 (if you don't something is missing !). One shaped like a little box on one end and an electrical plug on the other : you hook up the little box to your N64 and plug the device in the nearest power socket. The other cable has a a strange black and rectangular input that hook up in your N64 and 3 sockets that are red, yellow and white. Connect the latter on your TV by finding the same sockets with the same colours !

- Connect your controller to the console (it's the round-ish sockets in front of it)

- insert your game

- THEN turn on your console. Don't turn it on unless everything hooked up !

(if it doesn't work you may want to try the famous turn-off-the-console-blow-into-the-cartridge-put-it-back-and-try-turning-your-N64-again trick !)

Plug an N64 controller into the "Player 1" port on the Nintendo 64.

2 Place the N64 Controller Pack into the memory card slot on the Nintendo 64 controller.

3 Insert a Nintendo 64 game into the cartridge slot on the N64.

4 Hold down "Start" on the N64 controller.

5 Turn the Nintendo 64 on via the "Power" switch on the device. After the console loads, the Controller Pack menu will appear on the screen.

6 Release the "Start" button on the N64 controller.

7 Browse through the saves listed, using the N64 controller's directional pad.

8 Highlight the game you want to erase.

9 Select the "Delete" option. The pages that were occupied by the game save will be erased from the Controller Pack.

10 Repeat Steps 7 though 9 until you're finished erasing pages on the Controller Pak. Restart the N64 if you wish to play the game that was inserted into the device, or turn the Nintendo 64 off if you are done using the console.

It means the contacts within the cartridge reader could be dirty or broken. Try blowing the dust out of them to make better contact. If that doesn't work then it could be internal hardware failure :(
