I bought an LS4071 through eBay and have the same problem. I found the manual for the 4071 online, but it doesn't address the keyboard wedge setup that I am using; is that what you have? I am going to try to use the information found in the manual for the LS4208 scanner, as it is only a slightly newer model and it does have the setup instructions for the keyboard wedge. You can find the manual for the 4208 at this url:
    http://www.thebarcodewarehouse.co.uk/Lit...$PDK=990

Use the product reference guide, not the quick reference guide. I'll let you know if this works, or if I found something else that works.

Same for me, I have bought a LS4071 + RL744 on ebay, I have tried to use it with a synapse ST180-0100.

The computer does'nt see the scanner.

    I don't know if ST180-0100 + LS4071 + RL744 can work together...

    Thanks for any help

When I connected this scanner (purchased at a great discount through eBay) to my computer using the keyboard wedge (with a ps2 connection - the round connector) I received the error message that my computer could not recognize this external hardware. I went to barcodediscount.com and ordered the usb connector for this scanner as usb connections are usually recognized. The part # for this connector is STI85-0200R. It cost 72.55 with shipping, but I received the scanner at such a wonderful price that I thought I'd chance it and try it with a usb rather than a keyboard wedge connector.
The computer immediately recognized the usb connection, and the usb connector comes with a manual with codes to enable proper scanning, but still no luck getting the data into the computer. So I called Symbol's technical support department. The technician told me to remove the rubber "boot" at the bottom of the hand held scanner (not the scanner base) by pulling on the front of it (where the 2 little round circles are). It's tough to remove, but keep at it. Then gently remove the battery and unplug it, then plug it back in and reattach the base. He said this would reset the battery. Voila!!!! Sucess!!!!

If your scanner's keyboard wedge connection is recognized (a little popup window will say that it is a Symbol barcode scanner and that it is installed and ready to use), try taking the battery out and putting it back in to reset it. Hopefully this will also work for you. Symbol's technical support # is (800) 722-6234.

Download a program called Twedge.  It will allow your computer to read the barcode via serial connected barcode reader, and paste such code for other programs like Words, notepad, excel and even MYOB retail Basic etc...

My Symbol LS4278 will not transfer data to the computer. I have the PS2 cable and added a PS2 to USB. I get a beep as if the barcode is read, but it's not transferring the data to the program.

Hello,

Be sure to use a full PS2 to USB adapter not just the plug adapter. The one to use has the cable and a small encoder box in the middle, usually for keyboard and mouse together. We have seen some of the cheaper adapters not pass the proper voltages to the scanner for a good read. The ones we suggest to our customers is made by Belkin part # F5U119VE1SN

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Symbol barcode scanner LS4071 + base RL475

Hi, you will need the 25-17821-20 and STI80-0200R cables to connect to PS/2. You must have a PS/2 keyboard for this connection.

If you would prefer to connect to a USB port you should get the 25-17821-20 cable with the STI85-0200R.

The RL-475 was for the IBM, but it also supported Synapse which is the STI cable.

I buy the one but there is no cd driver can it go without driver

hi :
Your PSC QuickScan 6000 should not require any drivers. If this unit plugs into your keyboard port, you should be able to scan a barcode and view the data results in a text editor, such as Notepad. This technology is called "Keyboard Wedge" and consists of a cable with three ends. The first is plugged into your hand-held scanner. The second and third are rather close together and are at the end of the cable. This cable is called a "Y" cable because it resembles the uppercase letter "Y". The bottom part of the "Y" plugs into your scanner, while the first upper part plugs into your computer. The second upper part of the "Y" should be a female plug, allowing you to plug your keyboard into it.

Now if you are using a Keyboard Wedge scanner with a USB keyboard, the female end of the "Y" cable would not have anything plugged into. Unfortunately, the scanner will most likely not operate properly if no keyboard is attached to the keyboard port.

I suspect you may have an RS232 or "serial" scanner. Does your scanner have a power supply that plugs into a standard wall outlet? If so, you may have a serial interface scanner. You could use a program called Com to Keyboard, which would convert RS232 or "serial" data into keyboard data. This is a free program, however, it is a resource hog and may slow your system down

Barcode scanner scans and beeps, but will not put the numbers in the computer

There is more than one way for that imager to send data to the computer. Are you using USB, serial, or is there a little box that goes between your existing keyboard and the PC that accepts the scanner connector?

Scanning way

I found the solution:
The scanner by default send data without suffix or prefix. If anyone wants to have CRLF after the scanned data, he must set the scanner to send sufix after the data.
Read the page 5-78 in the manual :)
