Hayward Viper 5500 is spinning in circles

The sweeper is spinning in tight circles, causing the cord to get tangled in about 2 minutes

    • Viper never stops spinning after it goes into spinout mode. The cams are working properly, it just doesn't return to normal vac mode. It may be that the ball/spring assembly is stuck.

We found the problem to be a faulty check valve. the check valve cost about 25.00. I ordered it from poolcenter.com. The check valve is located by the cam. It's an easy fix. The check valve comes with the hose attachment, but since our hose was ok we just used a tie strap to connect the new check valve to the hose...sliped back into place... and it works like a charm once again. The part number is below. go to www.poolcenter.com

I had the same problem. I took the sweep motor apart and used a scotch brite pad and smooted the inside of the piston that operates the spinout. I also lubed the o-ring seals with some vaseline before putting it back together. I also used the scotch brite pad on the little plastic part and its mating surface the piston operates.

Yes my attachment to the cleaner spits water out of it thus not really moving properly!! Is this a common problem...
