The error comes from Outlook, not active synch.

Follow instructions here: ActiveSync 4.x Troubleshooting Guide - 85010014

I quote:

List of General Issues

  1. If you are seeing the error 85010014 (a general error) then try uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook. The error in ActiveSync is actually from the Outlook APIs. You will need to reconfigure Outlook unless you backup your settings. To uninstall Outlook click on the Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003 and chose to modify the installation by adding or removing components. Uncheck Outlook and updated it to remove Outlook from Office 2003. Then click on Office 2003 again and re-check the option to install Outlook to add it back to Office 2003. You may need your Office 2003 CD. Then reboot.
  2. If you are seeing the error 85010014 (a general error) and are using Exchange 2003 and folder redirection with Outlook, you may have to turn folder redirection off to sync or upgrade to ActiveSync 4.2.
  3. If you are seeing the error 85010014 and you are using Outlook in off-line mode with Exchange, you must be online with Exchange to sync.
  4. If you are seeing the error 85010014 and you have Outlook script blocking setup with your antivirus or anti-spyware program enabled you must configure your antivirus or anti-spyware program to allow ActiveSync to send scripts to Outlook.
  5. If you are using an unregistered or illegal copy of Outlook you may see the 85010014 error.
  6. Check to make sure that you have write access to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync where the [username] is your user name used to login to Windows.

  7. Do not forget to evaluate the solutions
Thanks

Hi there,

Apparently uninstalling and re-installing outlook and few more steps seem to have resolved the issue for many people.Suggest that you read this article
http://thinkabdul.com/2006/02/14/activesync-encountered-a-problem-on-the-desktop-support-code-85010014/

Let me know if it worked.

This error code often indicates a problem with the outlook database (pst file). Try running Outlook's SCANPST utility:

To run SCANPST, you'll need to find the utility program first and then locate where your Outlook.PST file is. You can search for these items - on my PC:

Office 2003 SCANPST.exe is in the \Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 subdirectory and
Office 2007
SCANPST.exe is in the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12 subdirectory
Outlook.pst file is in C:\Documents and Settings\Julie\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
If you search for these files, be sure you use the advanced search features and select the options to search hidden files and system files
. When you locate your Outlook.PST file, write down the full path to this file.

  • Then close Outlook
  • Select SCANPST.exe
  • This will bring up a dialogue box
  • Input the entire path and pst file name in the dialogue box.
  • Press the Start button
You may need to run SCANPST a few times to allow the utility to work through all the issues in your PST file.

Hi ry the following. This assumes you have ActiveSync 4.1 installed.
1. Backup the Outlook data file (export to a personal folder file).
2. Completely remove Outlook from the machine. Do this from the control panel, add/remove programs rather than the office disk.
3. From the original office disk, re-install Outlook.
4. Go to Settings, Control Panel, Mail, Show Profiles, delete your old profile and create a new one.
5. Start Outlook and import the file you originally exported in step 1.
6. Start ActiveSync on the PC and select File, Delete Mobile Device.
7. Connect to your mobile device ande create a new partnership - Voila ! Problem solved !

This error generally occurs due to corruption in Outlook. The
resolution is to uninstall/reinstall Outlook. Below are instructions to
for this along with instruction on how to backup information from
    Outlook.
To back up the Contacts folder, you need to export the folder to a file
in Personal Folders file (.pst) format.

    1. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
    2. Click Export to a
    file, and then click Next.
    3. In the Create a file of type list, click
Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.
    4. In the Select a
folder to export from list, click Contacts.
    5. If you have sub folders
below the Contacts folder that you want to include, select the Include
    subfolders check box.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Click Browse, choose a location
for the file, such as My Documents, and then type a name for your
    backup file, such as ContactsBackup.pst.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Click Finish.
    10. In the Name box, type My Contacts Backup.
    11. Type the encryption
and password settings if you need them, and then click OK. Follow the
same process for Calendar, Tasks, and Notes.
If you originally installed your Microsoft Office program from a
network file server or from a shared folder, you must install or remove
components from that location. If you installed your Office program
from a CD-ROM and you've mapped your CD-ROM drive to a new drive letter
since installing the Office program, reinstall from the CD-ROM. If
you're running any Office program files from the CD-ROM, you must
uninstall the Office program and then reinstall it from the CD-ROM.
    1. Quit all programs.
    2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon
    in the Windows Control Panel.
    3. Do one of the following: - If you
installed your Office program as part of Microsoft Office, click
Microsoft Office in the Currently installed programs box, and then
    click the Change button.
    - If you installed your Office program individually, click the name of
your program in the Currently installed programs box, and then click
    the Change button.

    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Next reinstall Outlook from your original installation CD.

    Hope this helps .

I bought a sprint htc mogul 6800 without the cds. When I plug it into the usb on my pc, it doesn't recognise the device? I am running windows xp. I need the download to make it work.

Htc's running windows mobile are going to need a program called Activsync to properly connect with your computer. With Activesync you'll be able to share files, emails, favorites, and contacts between Outlook Express and your phone. To get Activesync click the link below:

You might have to copy and paste it into your browser.

HTC usb driver download

There isn't one.
If you have Windows XP, Google "Microsoft Activesync", download and install it.
If you have Windows Vista Google, "Windows Mobile Device Center", download and install it.

These free Microsoft applications allow all Windows Mobile phones and PDAs to connect and sync with your Windows PC.

If this helps please vote for my solution.
