Question about Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

Rancilio silvia trips circuit breaker

Every time I turn it on, it trips the circuit breaker of whatever circuit it is plugged into. This is true even when nothing else is plugged into the circuit. It also tripped 3 different circuit breakers that work perfectly with other appliances.

There is an electrical short within the machine, ...don't doubt it - the results of your experiments prove that it has an electrical fault and that your tripping circuits are doing exactly what they should to keep you and your property safe.
The machine needs servicing by a registered Rancilio electrician, don't go inside yourself, its highly likely that the part causing the tripping is dangerous and will need to be replaced.

Hi
Sorry to say but your boiler element is ruptured and needs to be replaced. You can do an ohms check across the element terminals and if its good you will get a reading of 12 to 16 ohms.

Curcuit Breaker appears to be on but no power?

It sounds like something in that circuit is causing the overload. Disconnect anything that is in that circuit, flip the breaker, and one item at a time plug whatever was on that circuit back in until it trips again. Then try that item in a different circuit and see if it does the same thing. It could also be that the breaker is worn out and is tripping at a lower point that it supposed to. In that case you would have to replace the breaker.

First be very careful because the unit is protected by a ground fault internal circuit interrupter and may trip if there is a short circuit to ground. Even a very small short circuit will trip the circuit breaker.

Something else: If you are plugging it into an already existing ground fault outlet then that may also cause one of the breakers to trip.

Like I first mentioned, if you don't know what your doing be very careful. Electricity and water are not friends, especially if the circuit breaker is tripping.

Good luck,

if the breaker has tripped the test button won't do anything ,, for the breaker to trip something down stream of it is causing this to happen,, check all the switches and or receptacles in the circuit that are controlled by this breaker, 3 types of line problems cause tripping,, ground to line, Line to line, and line to neutral. in this ,, also consider that extension cords, faulty appliances , ( lamps, radios, anything plugged in with a feedback short ) will cause the breaker to trip. even a nail to hang a picture that pierced the wire can cause this, add to that , a AFCI breaker will trip much more easily than one thats not, or even a GFI breaker, , try this, if you have the knowledge to do electrical work in a panel, if not get someone who is, switch the tripping breaker with another one of the same value, ( in this case 15 amp) see if the one you put in place of the one thats giving you problems trips. If it doesn't, you have a weak or bad breaker, so just replace that one, if it does, your going to have to trace out that entire circuit to find the reason for the feed back into the panel

Have you tested the receptacle that the heater is/was plugged into, to make sure it's working and a circuit breaker hasn't been tripped?

If not, plug a lamp into the receptacle to see if it works. If it doesn't, check your home's circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker. If you find one, make sure there's nothing still plugged into the offending receptacle and reset the breaker. Then, plug the heater in and turn it on. Does it trip the breaker again? If it does, there's some type of short in the electrical system of the heater. If it doesn't trip the breaker, but still doesn't work, return it to the place of purchase for a replacement. However, you must have your Proof of Purchase Receipt to do this.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

Trips on power up

It has a short circuit on the final steps of the outputs, maybe the common called "final transistors or power amplification IC (integrated Circuits)"are blown. You don't have the ability to resolve this problem, so take the unit to a facility authorized repair.

The past Few days the microwave would trip the breaker. today I went to use it and it worked for 30 seconds when I checked what I was heating and turned it bakc on and it would not work

Microwaves that are either built in, a part of the oven, or over the range are on a dedicated circuit by law. This means nothing else could have tripped that breaker but the microwave.
If it has a problem severe enough to trip a 20 amp breaker several times, it is only getting worse each time you reset the breaker and turn it on.
There is a possible chance of fire. I recommend you turn the circuit breaker off and replace the microwave. Is it a plug in, or over the range type?

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

get an inexpensive clamp amp meter (Harbor Freight has them). Turn off power to the plug. Remove plug from wall but do not disconnet wires. turn fridge OFF. plug the unit in the recept. turn on the power. set the meter for the higest reading (amps) & clamp it around the black wire. turn the fridge ON & observe start up current & the "run" current. If the fridge is within limits on the data plate the problem is in the wiring circuit, maybe a loose connection either @ the plug or the breaker. if there are several plugs in the circuit, the problem could be in one of them. In addition, if there is a gfi plug in this circuit, it could be faulty also.

Ground Fault circuit Breaker trips each time a load is applied

The most likely causes in their order of probability are: 1) water somewhere in the circuit causing the hot wire to ground; 2) a legitimate trip caused by a defect in a device plugged into the circuit; and 3) a defective GFCI breaker. In the first case, wait until it has been dry for about a week and see if it trips. In the second case, make sure there is nothing plugged into the circuit and try resetting. In the third case go ahead and put the regular breaker in, then put a GFCI outlet into the first box downstream from the breaker. If installed according to the directions, that outlet should protect all of the outlets downstream.
