Question about MPC Computers TransPort T1200 Notebook

1 Answer

Intermittent monitor outages with MPC Transport T1200? Should I replace monitor or check wiring and how? New-to-me laptop, upon powering on no picture was visible, could hear all normal sounds of windows booting up. on closer inspection the picture WAS visible, but too dim to make out more than the gray of dialog boxes, the white background of my computer, etc. wiggling the monitor will temporarily fix the problem if held at precisely the right angle. I don't see any screws near the hinge that would indicate how to remove the monitor to troubleshoot. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Looking through your owners manual, there are several keyboard shortcuts that can at least increase the appearance, although it sounds like a simple connection problem. Very hard to find a repair manual, although most transport laptops have a very thin multiwire cable connecting the monitor to the keyboard. Sounds like that cable has one or more wires broken, or just possibly a bad connection where the cable connects to the mbd. If you have the expertise to disassemble and repair, those cables are available at many places like Fry's Electronics, however many are soldered in place and require quite a bit of technical expertise to replace. I would suggest doing some price shopping at some of your local repair shops. Here is what the manual says: Problem
Action
The display panel is blank when the system is turned on

  • Make sure the TransPort T1200 is not in the Standby or Hibernate suspend modes. The display is turned off to conserve energy in these modes.
The screen is difficult to read
  • The display resolution should at least be set to at least1024x768 for optimal viewing.
  1. Go to [Start > Settings > Control Panel] and double-click the Display icon.
  2. Under the Settings page, set screen resolution to at least 1024x768 and choose at least 256 colors.
The screen flickers
It is normal if the display flickers a few times during shutting down or powering up.
Nothing appears on the screen.
  • During operation, the screen may automatically turn off as a result of power management. Press any key to see if the screen comes back.
  • The brightness level might be too low. Increase brightness by pressing [Fn+F7].
  • The display output might be set to an external device. To switch the display back to the LCD, press [Fn+F5], or change the display through the settings in Display Properties.
The characters on the screen are dim.
Adjust the brightness and/or contrast.

Will Win7 run on an old MPC T1200? What about drivers?

Yes it will, all versions of window 7 except for 7 ultimate. Most drivers are compatible as well, but you may have to manually install some of them after doing a fresh install of win 7
go to http://mpcdrivers.com/ for any drivers and support issues that you may have. Although MPC went out of business a couple of years ago, there is such a large group of people that owned the pc's that they have made this website as a way of getting what you need forr the laptops.

My t1200 wont charge and also when it was charging

Sounds like your charger is not working, also it could just be your battery is no good. To check if it is the charger, remove the battery and see if the computer works with just the charger, if it is, it is your battery.

Hello.

There doesn't seem to be any free manuals available for your lapop. But, here's a link for an inexpensive one (around $6.00):

http://www.9manuals.com/micron_um.htm

Scroll down and you'll find yours. I haven't used them personally, tho.

Hope this helps.

Keyboard displaying double character

Could be several things. If dirty or under humid conditions, you might be able to just remove the keyboard and clean off the touch pad buttons. If not, I did a simple google search for the keyboard and found dozens for sale online for around 25 to 30 dollars.
