There is so little pressure coming out of the air hose you can stop the air with your thumb. The gauge is at 120# This compressor was purchased in 1983 and has been working until a few months ago.

If it is a cylinder compressr it is almost certainly tine to get a new one. Have you ever had the inside of the cylinder inspected tor corrosion? On the matter of the airlow, my compressor used to go upto a pressure , I mean the indicator on the regulator used to go up, only when the internal pressure went up . if yours shows 120 but only lets through a little air what happens if you release the purge screw, does very little air come out or does it whoosh out as usual.
If you intend refurbishing base this on the condition of the cir cylinder's internal condition...if it is very corroded it is probably a hazard

Almost no air will come out of brush, very hard to blow through line

do solve problem by elimination:

1 disconnect pressure regulator from supply, start compressor and check for air flow, if flow is good, switch off
2. connect pressure regulator and start compressor, if it is equipped with automatic stop/start check cut off by closing valve in full, if it is without automatic stop/start then open slowly valve and check for air flow, if it increases - no problem there either, switch off
3. connect your hose to the outlet and switch compressor on, you should have similar pressure on the end of the hose as it was after regulator. if pressure is much lower - check for blockage in the hose, maybe gasket or something in the tube, cheap and nasty hoses have tendency to "k i n k" (this common english word describing twist in hose preventing liquid or gas flow is regarded as profanity by fixya - stupidity is without borders...) and puncture, clean or replace the hose, i use on some of my airbrushes these little lines from surgery (blood transfusion, oxygen, aquarium air, they are perfect! and - much cheaper - mostly for free than special airbrush lines).
4. check flow on airbrush, on fully open valve should be not much less than it was coming from regulator, if there is little or no flow, increase flow on the piece, it have usually depending on the type needle regulator on the valve.

hope this short instruction will help you, enjoy your art and if you find it useful, feel free to vote for it...

Very little air pressure, unit was working great then all of a sudden very low pressure coming out. Unit runs fine, I disconnected hose but same issue.

RonV:
Run the compressor up and use a soapy solution to find the leak(s). Especially check both ends of the tube running from the compressor head to the tank.

My psi is 150 and the tank turns off but my regulator pressure is at 0, this is a brand new tank and never been used before.

Hi scooterb88...
Sounds like your pressure regulator needs adjustment...
Turn the knob on the pressure regulator clockwise and you should start hearing air coming out of your hose...Once air is coming out, remove your hose and keep turning the regulator till you get to your desired working pressure normally around 90 psi...leave your pressure regulator at that setting and it will stay at that setting.

I can't get the hose to connect to the compressor.

after scewing the fittings on hose & compressor with thead tape (ofcourse) ,simply pull the collar back on the female fitting & incert the male fitting & release the collar .----------these may be called quick connectors but they require a little effert under air pressure.

Just got A/C topped up. The Compresser engages and turns when A/C on. So while the clutch engages there is no air?? Mechanic says the compressor is cooked?? The only other problem I know with this 98...

The compressor would have to be working in order for the mechanic to add refrigerant to the system. If he added refrigerant, then the compressor is what pulled it in through the low side service port. He can't say the compressor is cooked, and still charge you for adding refrigerant. The easiest way to find out if the compressor is working is to feel the low and high pressure hoses while the compressor is turning. If it is working the low side hose will get very cold, and the high side, or return hose will be hot. If the low side hose is not getting cold, then the compressor may not pumping the refrigerant. The vacuum hose could be connected to the interior heat/air controls, which could result in no air coming out the A/C vents.

Craftsman air compressor wont hold more than 15lbs of air?

Change that coupling . You can try spraying a little WD-40 or similar into it, while you push it open with a screwdriver, just to see if that helps seal it better. If air leaking by there all the time, compressor that small can't keep up.

This is a stab in the dark.....but have you emptied the condensation out of the tank? It may reach max pressure....but have little air compressed inside the tanks. Just a guess.

The condensor (or dryer) needs to be replaced if its older and especially if the compressor has not worked is several months or more..
As a matter of fact - allot of the time whn you buy a compressor they will not waranty it unless you buy a dryer too..
Also - be sure the compressor is getting power..

Rate well ;o)
