Re: blue converence was intermitten now out on sides
If the IC's say have STK printed on them, then they are the convergence IC' s. should be three of them, replace all 3 , and the burned green coils, sometimes these burn as they supply the volts to the STK's. good luck, be safe..

Convergence is dead.Must know how to solders?Must replaced 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors.Tries Websites Tv repair World.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a converence kit to repair it urself. The shop will cost u $300 for parts and labors.
This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html Note:The convergence/defletion/power board (the one the IC's are on) of this model is on the left hand side (when facing the back of set) also check for blown pico fuses when replacing the convergence IC's The best way to replace the IC's resistors and possibly fuses is to remove the entire board.
Sounds like a convergence ic problem, normaly i tell people to replace the ic's but in your case try to re-solder the pins on the ic first, you may just have some pins broken loose from the board. Locate the stk392 ic's there will be two of them located on a heat sink, unplug the tv and get to the bottom side of the board and re-solder the pins. if this does not work, then replace the ic's
A blue picture after it's been on for a bit is normally one of several things. The most common for your Sony is the CRT, tube, the second most common problem is the blue CRT 'IC'(chip). The IC is located is on the blue crt board.
The best way to determine this is to remove the speaker grill(on front of TV), then inner panel, the blue tube will be on your right hand side. Remove that little board at the end of the tube.THIS AFTER YOU HAVE UNPLUGGED THE POWER FROM THE WALL. Plug TV back in turn TV on. If TV comes on with picture and there is no blue in the picture, The tube is bad, if TV turns off it's the IC.
Good Luck, BI.
You can get the replacement Ics at the following link you need two STK392-040 ICs they are located on the Convergence board that should be mounted on the upper right side of the set above the deflection board. You will notice two large Black Ics with STK392-040 stamped on them. Heres the link to get the new ICs and free instalation instructions with pictures. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
Hi,sounds like the convergence power supply reg.has failed, when this ic fails the adj. projection tv leaves the menu, this ic is located on the board above the board with 6 heat sinks on it mounted on the black plastic, its the ic that is heawt sinked on this board, part number is 215530
The converence IC's are the problem. Unfortunaely,
I do not a service manual for that unit. You will find the IC's mounted on a large heat sink. The nuers usually start with STK-xxxx. Find these IC's and copy the number off them. Usually the can be replaced by generics. You can order them directly
from Mat Electronics 1-800-628-1118. Be extremely careful when you desolder these ICS the foils are
easy to lift. Use desoldering braid(chemtronics)
10-25L. Also ask for BOB and tell him that Tom from TOM's Tv suggested him. This will insure you the lowest price. Also some times the current limiting resistors open up. Always replace both convergence ICS. In your case only one is bad. Replace both anyway. (they only cost about $12.00 @ Any further questions, contact me. These are great TV's and well worth repairing!!! Scrivitron
