Computer Beeping, something loose?

I have an HP Pavilion a1000y with windows xp. Just yesterday I tried to put the hard drive from my dell dimension 3000 into the hp. When I turned the computer on my screen stayed blank and my computer started beeping, very long constant beeps. So I put the origanal hard drive back into the hp but my computer continued to beep when I tried to turn it on. I found out that the beeps mean something is loose so I took out the ram and made sure I put it back in properly. Then I unatached the gray cable (sorry I'm not sure what it's called, one of my friends that has his own computer business told me to do this) and then reatached it. The power cord is plugged into the ram properly, so I'm not sure what else could be the problem. What else should I try? Thanks!!

Switched a vista hd to a xp hd and windows will not open

You can't do that, it just won't work. A hard drive with XP installed on it will be unrecognizable to a PC with vista already installed on it. You can either backup your XP drive by putting it into a compatible XP computer. Or you can buy on of these, which are handy. This let's you get the data to your new PC thru a USB connection.

Dell Dimension 8400 running xp has died. Can I put the hard drive into a spare slot in a Windows 7 PC to get the data off the XP HD?

Two Options:1. Yes you can as long as your Windows 7 PC has the correct connection for your hard drive. Most likely you need an IDE connection. If you have an IDE hard drive and the Windows 7 PC has an IDE connection, then you will need to make sure to "slave" the hard drive by moving the jumper on the hard drive to slave mode.
2. If your Windows 7 pc doesn't have an IDE connection, the purchase a USB to IDE cable adapter:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2329300&CatId=3770

This way you can plug your hard drive into any computer through USB.

I have 2 computers one dimension 3000 dell. on the drive is down. the other has no partions built in. is it possible to find the bios chip on the one computer, swap out to the other that has a boot...

it would probably be easier to just swap the hard drives. then when you go to boot, put in an OS install cd (Mac OS X ; Windows XP ; Windows Vista ; Windows 7) and it will walk you through the steps and partition your hard drive for you.

It could also be the conncetion came loose, which can happen with IDE hard drives if the laptop gets moved around a lot. Remove the hard drive and take it to an electronics store to have it tested, or if you have a friend with an external enclosure (2.5" IDE interface, they cost between$10-20) you can hook it up to another computer via the USB port

Dell Dimension 4600 stalls during boot

Turn the computer's power on.
Immediately put the original Windows XP CD into the drive.
Tell the computer to boot from the CD (not from the hard-drive).
Does it start to boot from the CD?
Do you get as far as the "repair/install" boot-screen?
If so, your basic hardware is OK, and turn your computer off,
rather than choosing "repair" or "install".
Then, it's probably either the hard-drive that is failing,
or the installed copy of Windows XP is fuddle-duddle-ucked up, so that it cannot finish the "Windows startup" processing.

Installing Windows XP on new drive in HP a220n

Your new hard drive has a name, like Seagate, Western Digtail, bla, bla... Go to the Mfg's web site for your drive. Download the bootable floppy disk manager setup utilities. If you have a floppy disk drive. If you don't have a floppy drive most Mfg's allow you to make a bootable CD. Lastly or maybe I should have mentioned this first. Make sure your drive is pinned out correctly. I'm only guessing you bought an IDE drive which has a jumper for setting the drive as a master or a slave or a master with a slave.
