I have an older craftsman snow blower 10 hp. It starts ok with full choke, runs ok half choke, backfires with no choke-run position.

It's too lean; not enough fuel mixed with the air. Look for the main mixture screw--it should be a large screw with a spring under it on the carburetor. Run the engine until it's warm.

With the engine running, turn the screw outward (lefty-loosey) about 1/8 turn slowly and see if it improves. Slowly turn the screw back and forth until it runs best with the choke completely off. Then set it 1/8 turn richer (turn screw outward 1/8 turn) than the best position.

Reason for doing this: Conditions change, even the barometric pressure. Small engines run okay if they are a little rich but not if they are a little lean.

Back pack leaf blower wont run past half chick

Either your carb is still dirty as in has clogged jets or passages, bad diaphragm in the carb or you have the air/fuel needles way out of adjustment. Google what type of motor you have and how to set carb. Or even get a manual, that would be my advice. Also make sure you don't have to much 2 stoke oil in your fuel mix.

Won stay running

Needs a carb adjustment, cleaning, or possible rebuilt. Try adding a little seafoam and running at half choke for about 5 mins or longer this may clean it up nicely. also check the spark plug.

I recently tuned up my blower. It starts great but if I turn it off Nd try to restart it it floods and will not start until I let it sit for awhile.

If the engine is warm and you shut it down, leave the choke off, lower the revs and start it. (when the choke is wide open you are using the fresh air coming in to dry the spark plugs and prevent flooding). If the motor is already flooded use that procedure to dry the plugs, then go back to full choke until it tries to start and quits again, then use half choke and pull one more time... works all the time.

Sounds like you are running it with the choke on - is it spitting black smoke?

Do you use 2 cycle or 4cycle oil for mix in shindawai blowers

Not knowing what model blower you have, I do know that Shindaiwa manufactured both two cycle and 4 cycle blowers. In either case, you run the required 50:1 ratio. I would also recommend using the Shindaiwa branded oil since it is formulated to run in their equipment at that ratio.

Other manufacturers have 4 stroke blowers on the market that run "straight" fuel because they have an oil sump for the engine oil, much like a 4 stroke lawnmower. However, that is not the case with Shindaiwa's 4 cycle design which still runs "mixed" fuel.

While running what setting does the choke lever need to be placed in

Depending on how your unit runs, it may need to be on half choke until the motor warms up. After the motor gets hot it should run with the choke fully off.

Shindaiwa Blower - when throttle pushed, engine sounds flooded and it dies. any thoughts on how to fix?

Its not flooded- its lean.
Heres a way to test me. Try to give it throttle but keep it running. At the same time slowly close the choke. does it run better as you close the choke? Does it run pretty good on half choke?
Rebuild the carb, replace the fuel lines and fuel filter.
