I'm having major issues with my Acer CD-RW 8432IA with Windows XP. It gives this name to the drive:
"AUAQI! ! CE-Q/QW!8Y4Y31 !"
I have my DVD-ROM set as master and my CD-RW drive as the slave. I've tried both ways, and neither seems to work, so I went with the documentation settings. Flash firmware update doesn't work, probably because the device name is so screwed up. If anyone has encountered this problem, or has suggestions for me, please help me out with an e-mail. Thanks.
I have the same problem, I had a Creative 52X CD Rom as slave and my TDK 12/10/32 CDRW as master on secondary channel. I started to notice when my BIOS would detect the IDE drives the Creative CD Rom would come up with crazy lettering like you are getting. So I thought the CD Rom was going, I got a Acer 56X CD Rom, I put it in same configuration and my BIOS would see it and everything worked fine. Yesterday I put in a TDK 32/10/40 CDRW, and took out my 12X CDRW, when the BIOS went to detect the IDE drives, that crazy detection came up for the Acer CD Rom, all other IDE drives were detected by the BIOS except the Acer CD Rom. In Device manager only the TDK 32/10/40 drive was showing up under CD Roms, Also I got no icon for my Acer CD Rom in explorer. So I put my 12X CDRW back in and the Bios and Windows detected both the 12X CDRW and the Acer CD Rom. What I did then was put my Creative Labs 52X CD Rom back in with the 32X CDRW and the BIOS and Windows recognized both of them. Why this happens I do not know? How long before my Creative CD Rom will not be detected in the BIOS I do not know? I have the latest BIOS update for my MB a DFI AK74 EC. I do not know if its a BIOS issue, or a Windows XP H.E. Issue? Any Help out there. ...
