Acer Aspire Am3470g case removal

I also have an Acer Aspire AM-3470G & just swapped DVD drives trying to troubleshoot a problem. Remove the one side panel with the finger tab that gives you access to the system board/HD's, etc. No need to remove the opposite side panel. With the panel off, there are 3 black plastic tabs holding the front cover on. Release them so that the front panel pivots to the opposite side which also has 3 black tabs. Those tabs will release themselves as you pivot the front cover. You may need a bit of force to pivot the cover so be careful not damage the plastic tabs. You'll now have complete access to the DVD tray area. The DVD is held in by 2 exposed screws, there are none on the opposite side of the drive. Unscrew them, disconnect the power & SATA connectors & slide out the drive. If you replace the DVD drive, test the new one before you reassemble all the covers to verify everything works.

How do I remove the CD/DVD drive from this computer? The layout inside is different from many desktops.

just pop off the colored plate and the clips are on the side. the drive will slide right out.
(1) take off the left side cover, (2) near the front, at the bottom of the internal drive cage is a plastic lever, flip it down, (3) now open the front plastic CD holder cover (the bottom gray plastic thing), (4) there are two finger holes at the bottom of the top plastic cover - pull the top cover loose (note if you're scared to put a lot of pressure on it, you can use a small flat screwdriver through those holes to lift back the two tabs holding the cover on), (5) with the top cover off, pinch in the two plastic tabs on the side of the drive you want and pull it forward (note disconnect the IDE cable (and audio if there is one) before pulling the drive too far out), (6) pull off the two side rails from the old drive (they just push in and pull out) - but note which rail comes off which side (I'm not sure if they can be inserted upside down or not, so just keep track of which one goes on which side), (7) push the side rails onto the new drive (note you have to really push hard on the metal part of the rail to seat it properly - you'll know it's not seated if the drive doesn't slip in easily), (8) slip in the new drive & connect the IDE and power (and audio if there is one)cables (9) install the top plastic frame, flip up the lock inside the case, then close the bottom CD cover thing, (10) enjoy the new drive. hope this helps you and please vote for me

I have an old Compaq Presario 5109 desktop (5000 Series Presario), it is no longer useful for what I need it for, but I would like the DVD drive out of it, so far I can not find out how to take it out. ...

I would like you to download (Free) the, Upgrading and Servicing Guide, for the Compaq Presario SR5109UK,
(Will apply to your SR5109 desktop computer),

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3457899&lang=en&

On this page the file is the first one in the list.
Upgrading and Servicing Guide - 2.06MB

Left-click right on the file name.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the file name - Upgrading and Servicing Guide, it may take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page.
It may also take longer before the file has fully downloaded.

(Took 4 seconds before I saw the first page, and an additional 20 seconds before the file was fully downloaded. Medium speed DSL connection)

Page 12 has information about removing an Optical Drive. (CD/DVD drive)

Should you not be bale to download this file from HP Support, please state so in a Comment, and I'll lead you through it step by step.

(Computer unplugged from power. The Front Panel has to be removed, and the Side Cover. Then there is a locking arm you swing down to remove an optical drive)

I am trying to find were to put the new hard drive in the compaq presario 5000

There are several extra bays internal. You need proper data/and power cables, possibly a "Y" splitter to give you access to an additional power tap. Also about 4 small machine mounting screws and or spacer shims if the HD is smaller than the available bay. The HD does not necessarily need to be mounted through the front bt the 5000 has removable bezels that exposed the xtra bays.

Compaq 5000 series JBL speakers

Hi Shockme17, sorry for late response I have been away. Gently remove the frame holding the material speaker cover by pulling it off from the top (the material speaker cover is just a push fit on the main body of the amp/speaker). Don't use any implement, you may damage the cover. Once you have worked the cover off iy will expose 4 screws holding the unit together. Remove those & the unit splits into two parts. JeffuH
