I am a dodge man not ford but as a test have you inverted the wires to the coil noing one side works if the same coil dosnt fire it probably be the coil if the oppaset dosnt fire i would guess it was in the wireing or a pick up just a thought good luck. also if it has a resestore? dodge hasballest kind of the same.

Thanks for the help but all that didn't work. But did find that the crank sensor was bad. It has dual pickups one for each coil pack. Will know later when part comes in if that fixed it.

Well new crank sensor didn't help. Checked the wires and found no breaks. So still only one coil firing. Help

I'm getting an orange spark on my 1983 ford ranger, 2.3 4 cylinder. Replaced the coil, the distributor cap looks brand new. This truck is excessively flooding and when it does crank, it won't...

yes it could,, if you don't have the correct spark,, the firing would be weaker also, check the wires themselves to the plugs, and also the rotor , just because the cap looks brand new doesn't mean that its not arching inside the cap,, allowing the contact to get a reduced spark, if you replaced the coil, then its after that in the electrical circuit,, which brings you back to the cap, rotor, and wires. normally 3 wires won't go bad all at once unless there is a heat problem where the wires are routed, so I would just replace the cap and rotor, and see how it runs after that .

Im working on a ford ranger 2002 with the v6. i just need to see a pic of the piston order and the coil pack order. im getting codes for 4..5..6 missfire but im not sure witch ones they are

Cylinders 1,2 and 3 are the cylinders on the passenger side and cylinders 4,5 and 6 are the cylinders on the driver's side. They are numbered front to rear. The coil pack will have the cylinder numbers marked on the top of it. The actual firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6
The top of your coil should look like this:
1 2 3
5 6 4

Your engine looks like this:
1 2 3
FRONT OF ENGINE
4 5 6

Where is the ignition module control located on 1996 ranger 2.3 e

It does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it recieves from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
