You will need to change the brushes for sure.Easy job at least. There are two types of brushes,The ones that can be fixed without taking the saw apart. The other brushes once you open the case and look at the front of the brush holders you will see some small holes.Take out the old brushes and push the new brush past the holes and push a piece of wire through the holes.Make sure the wire is long enough to go through a vent so you can pull it out when every thing on the body is buttoned up.

I use a piece of cardboard or Styrofoam to keep track of the bolts by just poking them in as I take them out,a magnet is good for the small stuff.

How to replace brushes

I could not find instructions or video on your model, but on your model the brushes are under the plastic cover opposite from the blade.
if the cover is removed you should be able to see how to replace them.

How do I install new brushes on 15 amp motor for 3400 skil table saw?

Here is the breakdown - I believe the brush tubes just friction fit with the wire connected by a spade terminal.

SKIL MAG77LT 15-Amp sparking in the motor

check to see if you have a colapsed brush spring. When they get overloaded it heats the spring and they will colapse and not get good contact with the armature. The brush ce same width aould be hanging up a bit in the holder. Clean the brush holder with a points file and see if the brush travels enough to make good contact with the armature. Or the armature can be bad. It should have a nice even dark ring around it the same width as the brush. If it's pitted between two bars, a bar is missing, or it's discolored above and or below the normal wear line of the brush the armature can be bad.

Skillsaw throws sparks when on

Often a collapsed brush spring will cause this - remove the brush caps and inspect the brushes - if the brushes are short >1/4" or the springs are broken or weak you can try just replacing the brushes. With the brushes out you can use a flashlight and look through the tube to inspect the armature. The copper commutator should not look scarred or burnt - if it is you most likely will need an armature.

I suspect that the brushes have fallen out between the end bearing and the armature bars.. Try removing the brushes and see what happens.

Skil saw stops I bump it it starts then it stops I bump it it starts

The two groves could be caused by the auto stop pin in the brushes but I would also check the brushes are not getting stuck in the brush holders.

I have a 10'mastercraft table saw with the carbon brush gone, and cannot not find one no place, cannot find a scrap one anywhere could you help

Try this link. If that doesn't work, see if the motor has a manufacturer or model number on it, or if the old brushes have a number stamped on them and use that to search online. Go to google and search "motor brushes" Good luck.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Loaned a Skil 5150 to a friend and when he returned it, the saw seems to run slow and the brushes produce lots of spark.

There is no fuse in the Skil 3400 saw. Check your cord, then brushes. You might have a broken brush spring, causing one brush to hang up in brush tube. Possibly there maybe a lot of sawdust holding a brush up.
