Treadmill control panel not functioning properly

I own a Pro-Form 540 Treadmill which is now out of warrenty and the electronic keypad control panel is not functioning properly.
Sometimes I can't turn the machine on at all and at other times one or two of the many keypad functions will be responsive.
I suspect there might be a fairly simple solution to this problem and would like to explore this possibilty before spending the $500 or so that the company says it will cost to replace the entire control panel.
Thanks for your help.

Did you find a solution to your control panel problem? I have the same problem. What if any is the fix.

    Thanks, VV

Hi Pstefanski..Afraid there is no easy fix to this problem..I had the same also..I called Sears and for the cost of replacing the keyboard, it would be cheaper to buy a new treadmill..keyboard was close to $300 ..depend how old it is to tellu the truth..AL

The best solution is to buy a better quality treadmill. I own a ProForm 500i that is on it's way to the bulk waste dump. I bought it used from someone who never used it and this treadmill doesn't have more than 170 miles on it, which is really not that much. The board is completely out on this thing. This piece of **** seems to be designed as an entry level, low cost treadmill for those aspiring to get into a routine, and not a true workhorse piece of fitness gear.

No lights on the top panel of Treadmill Pro-Form 345s

1) replace the old batteries by new ones. clean the contacts batteries very well
2) tight the ribbon cable for keypads and clean it
3) tight the upper connector vs lower connector
4) adjust the REED switch, see the diagram clean it, test for open or faulty and tight the connector.

My control board does not work...buttons cant be pressed to engage the treadmill? I have a Pro-Form cross walk>

Remove the console from the treadmill and remove the back
remove and replace the ribbon cables that run from the keypads to the control board (they are flat plastic strips that push into the board).
remove and replace all the connections on the console
reattach the console and calibrate by doing the following:
1. With the key off press the speed + and stop buttons at the same time and hold
2. place the key on and release the buttons
3. press the stop key once
4. press the speed up til it reaches 85
5. if your max speed is 10 mph then it should read about 9.8-10.2

If the keys will not work then the console is bad and would need replaced.

The +/- speed buttons and the red stop button do not function

Sounds like the function keypad has failed or worn out from excessive use of those buttons Call Kettler's customer support

My fans don't turn on when I press the button. Has anyone else had this problem?

This problem occurs even in the $7,000.00 units. My suggestion is unplug the treadmill then remove the upper console. Remove the back panel find the two wire that come form the fan motor get a 9v battery plug it into the motor and see if it runs. If it does, then you have a function pad problem or upper electronics problem ( I tend to lean towards the function pad ) if it doesn't then replace fan motor

Sounds like your function key has failed and needs replacing if this model offers it they may want you to purchase the entire console so go to iconfitnes.com or call them @ 1-800-999-3756

Problems with my pro form 540 treadmill

So after reading the post from EricLaw, I wanted to clarify his solution because it also worked for me. When you open up the console, you will see the membrane (it actually says membrane inside very small) and the connecting wires to the membrane is actually a wide flat plastic with some stripes embedded in the clear plastic which can be easily detached from the membrane (looks like masking tape w/ stripes). These stripes are how the touch pad on the console talk to the membrane. I then took scissors and cut slits between each stripe (cutting only the clear plastic part of the plastic tape) so that I could leave a strip out of the membrane. I played around leaving different strips out until the right strip was left out. If I recall correctly, I left the 5th strip out and the key pad now works entirely EXCEPT the speed 1 and 4 which were the only keys working until I did this. Hope this helps.

I have a Sears Pro Form 730si. The treadmill

I believe E4 on ths 730si means that the speed of the motor the sensor is detecting is greater than the set speed. E2 would be the opposite. I believe there is a way to calibrate the speed. Look at the smaller motor controller board.
