Car gets half way to turning over. Sounds like it is about to start and then the starter disengages. I was wondering if this is only the starter or if it could be something else. I checked the spark plugs and they are worn but not dead. Also tried jumping the car. 10 Minutes after the car made progress and 20 Minutes after it wants to start but just cant. I'm not very car savvy.

Hi,
If it is electronic ignition, check you are actually getting a spark at the plugs. If not, there may be an immobiliser fault, or a fault with the crank sensor. The crank sensor tells the ignition when to fire. If it doesn't get a signal, you won't get a spark.

all I had to do on a sable was to replace the belt but look at the battery there should be a wire coming from the battery going to another solenoid mounted under the hood and then going down to the starter get a 12 volt tester and see if you have power going to this solenoid cause it could be dead on one end and not going down to the starter

The battery cables are connected fine and are clean no rust or corrosion. Its a 6 year battery and Its 4 years old. I do not have a battery tester so I will have to get my fathers. Thank you for the fast responses.
