This is a hard one to answer. I can say reinstall Windows. Abit harsh.
But there are boot discs that reset passwords.

SOURCE: hp compaq nx8220 - Administrator password cannot be reset

If this issue started with a motherboard error that appeared to be a faulty CMOS battery and then it started incorrectly detecting your memory and now is asking for a password it could be a faulty motherboard. If you are 110% you or anyone else has set a password on that laptop then I would say your motherboard needs to be replaced. It is a difficult process to reset admin passwords on most laptops due to a security chip that will prevent the trick of removing the battery from working. In all honestly if no one has set a password and the motherboard THINKS someone has then even if you reset the password you will still have issues. There is a small chance your CPU or RAM could be defective. But, again going back to it saying you have a password set that was never set. It just yells faulty motherboard unless someone has set a password without you knowing.

SOURCE: My HP Pavilion dv7 Series will not boot up either

At this point, your operating system has crashed. Sadly, the recovery will not work at this stage. Your next option is to get all your information transferred to another computer and then install the operating system of your choice. How do I fix my Acer 51-511 laptop

Try safe mode, that runs windows with simple video drivers and limited tasks. If OK in safe mode, click RESTORE POINT in the search box and find a date when it worked properly and go back to that.

I have a HP 7600 with xp, I restored using xp disc to fix 1 problem then when it reboots it continually goes into safe mode then I get, restore cant restore in safe mode press ok to restart. Can some

Let the machine boot up into safe mode. You'll get a screen that will ask you if you want to go into system restore. Choose YES and it will come up with a calendar of different restore points. Choose a date point where you know the computer was working and then let it restore.
If this doesn't fix the issue then windows is corrupted and you'll need backup your data and reinstall windows completely.

My HP mini netbook has a virus and need to factory restore it. first, how do i factory restore it? second, the computer is my roommates computer and she forgot the admistrator password on it so whenever i...

Are you certain you need to do the factory restore?

In order to do the factory restore you need to have a restore DVD or an uninfected partition on the hard-drive which contains the original install files

If you can boot in safe mode, run Windows restore and be sure to select a restore point/date at which you are certain the virus was not on the PC.

Press F8 on startup before the blue password box appears and you get the option to boot in safe mode.

I updated my sound driver and now my windows 7 wont start after a rebbot but starts after shutting down

Ok perform a system restore, press F8 at bootup and choose safe mode desktop, when you are asked if you want the safe mode desktop or system restore, choose restore, and when ask if you want restore or desktop choose restore, restore to a time BEFORE the driver up date and follow instructions and reboot, you should be back where you were.Or start up in safe mode desktop, at desktop, go device manager and "Roll back" the driver. reboot, should be OK.

Rebooting windows vista back to when i first got without a disc

You might try system restore option and restore it to a date you know it worked well
1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2.
On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
3.
On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, as shown in Figure 2, and then click Next.

4.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the correct restore point is chosen, and then close any open programs.
5.
Click Next if you are ready to proceed or click Back to change the restore point.
6.
The computer will shut down automatically and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and then click OK.

After reviewing the stability of your system, you can choose another restore point or undo this restoration. Just open System Restore and make the appropriate choice. After you use System Restore, you'll have an additional task, Undo my last restoration, on the System Restore Welcome page. Remember that you'll have to reinstall any programs that were installed after the restore point.
If System Restore doesn't work in Normal Mode, it might work in Safe Mode. To use System Restore in Safe Mode, press the F8 key during reboot and choose Safe Mode. When your computer starts in either Safe Mode or Normal Mode, System Restore can be used to capture a working previous state. System Restore can't be opened unless the system is bootable into one of these modes.
