No power.with ac adapter connected the laptop shows battery low .
With ac adapter connected the laptop(IBM T22), shows low battery and then switches off, isn't it supposed to work anyway through the ac adapter. I thought even with a dead battery, using the ac adapter the laptop would work anyway, but seems i'm wrong. any answers, thanks Tony.

There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power
adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop,
remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop &
see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter
with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case
we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
If this did not work, try also disassembling the laptop & make sure
that all main components are seated properly. Also make sure that all
ribbon cables interconnecting the various components of the laptop are
Both batteries could be dead. But if you bought a new battery, it's unlikely. I don't know what green light you see, but if it's on the power adapter, it just means it's turned on--not that it is charging. Two possibilities: Your power adapter is bad or the motherboard is bad. Because you say the computer works if plugged in, then you have ruled out the adapter. You should be checking/cleaning the battery contacts and if all else fails, going for a new motherboard.
You might try cleaning the battery compartment. Makeing sure there are no damaged pins. Often times even a single messed up pin will cause this. Also this is a very good indication of adaptor failure. If you haven't allready I suggest getting another ac adapter specific to you machine. Even a substitute will casue the same issue you are now experianceing.
It is possible that the battery has been so depleted that it gobbles up all the power from the charger/adapter and leaves nothing for the laptop to use. Perhaps what you can do are: 1. try and charge the battery at least overnight with the laptop off; 2. use the adapter/charger only and remove the battery from the laptop.
Hope this be of help. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Take it to a very good technician who will open it up and check a dry joint in the charging system. Sometimes if you donot attend to it quickly you may find your T22 refusing to power at all with the AC Adaptor. Delicate soldering may solve your problem. Power may not be getting to the charging circuit and the battery thus it is totaly discharged.
