Question about ASUS Eee 4G Notebook

Asus eee pc sends terrible buzz from mixer to speakers when charging

I had been using it for the past 2 years with no problems whatsoever. I like to sing to karaoke (most of the time from youtube), so I connect the notebook on to a mixer, which also is connected to a couple of speakers with integrated amplifiers. B but a couple of weeks ago, after plugging and unplugging everything several times, I learned that if I disconnect the ac adapter from the notebook, the terrible buzz goes away. The downside to this is my notebook's battery will only last about an hour and I like to sing for hours on end. Please help, I have no knowledge about electronics, but singing on a daily basis is a great therapy for me. Thank you!!!

Well, I did connect another laptop and there is no buzz. Does this give you any clue, by any chance? The thing is the laptop I tried is borrowed, so can't count on using that one ;)

It is definitely something electrical, whether it be the socket for the port or something not functioning properly, do you notice a wiggle when you plug into the laptop?

I went to Best Buy a couple of days ago and took it to the technicians there. This is what they told me: Since I connect an RCA 3.5 mini jack to the laptop (the headphones entrance), and the other end has 2 outs, and these go connected to the mixer, this could be the culptrit. So we decided to instead connect an RCA 3.5 mini jack to the laptop, this time with one end going to the mixer, in which place we added a 1/4 adapter and connected it to one of the channels of the mixer. Well, the buzz went away about a 95%. Which leads me to believe that if I can get 2, 1/4 adapters going to both entrances on the mixer channel, the buzzing will completely go away. I have already ordered these from ebay, so will let you know the results as soon as I try this. Unfortunately, the guys at Best Buy, although very nice and helpful, were not able to explain the reason behind the buzz. But it really doesn't matter. It seems that I am finally reaching a solution. :D

Wrap some aluminum foil around your charging cord (right up to the point where it plugs into the computer)
This happens when elecromagnetic interference happens from the electricity from your cord and your A/V cords come too close together without protection.
Tin foil, any can's if you cut them properly, essentially just something to keep the interference away from the cord. You mostly notice this at concerts or if playing an electric guitar and it gets too close to the amp it creates a humming/buzzing noise that can get pretty annoying. Try the tin foil though that should work fine, don't be afraid to use a lot of it either, it won't hurt anything, the better wrapped it is the more likely you will get rid of the buzz

Thanks Chad, I did try the aluminum foil just now, but unfortunately nothing changed. The ugly buzz is still present. Thanks for trying though :)

Hmmm... Try something that insulates the current then

    Isn't the aluminum for insulating?

I thought it would have done the trick, if you're still getting that noise I may be wrong.. I'm no electro-anything that's for sure lol. Another thing to try is if you think it's the power cable, use another (similar) laptop and see if it has the same effect, if not it may be the PSU inside of the laptop

I have a 3 year old asus eee PC and it is running like a dog! Help!!!

It's an ATOM CPU @ 1.6GHz and should be running XP. Do you still have 1GB of RAM? Upgrade to 2GB if possible. Get rid of Win 7. Get rid of Ubuntu.

I got an old dog myself, and I just installed Ubuntu. Slow, but it's dual boot.

I have Asus EEEPC 1015...I bought it in March, but now the speakers are not working and the when i plug headphones in they dont work either ...any ideas to locate the problem

The first thing you should check is the volume at the audio mixer. Near the lower right corner of your screen locate the speaker (or something similar) icon, click on it and set the volume slider at a higher setting.
Check the results and in case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

Well here is the bad news. There is no fix to the wireless problem. It works on some machines when they are shipped but on others. YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING's a bug in the Xandros software. It will either work immediately when you get it, or it won't and you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out. Send the machine back and demand your money or a replacement. From other posts the distributors of ASUS EEE know of the problem and will replace or refund but don't wait to long. Sorry, but I am only the messenger...good luck.
