The C31 code indicates that a motor is not spinning properly. The tape will eject. This can be caused by a number of things from a bad capacitor that prevents a motor from starting to a bad motor or mis-timed gears. This is not a repair that I would recommend to an inexperienced person. Report this problem to an authotized Sony service center for an estimate. If you wish to attempt the repair, let me know and I'll supply more details about the possible repair solutions.

Make sure tape is not in locked postion.
Try a diffrent tape.
Leave tape in camera off take battery out.
wait 30 secound
put battery back in .
turn on.
Good Luck!
If that does not work MSG back.

1- The usb connection on the media player does not supply enough current for fulsized drives.
2-The drive format and file system needs to be something your media player will recognize, most likely FAT32

How can I hook it up to the computer without the software? Is there a bypass code i can enter?

There is no way you can connect your camcorder to your computer without using software or drivers. If your camcorder falls within the range of those recognised by microsoft or some editing software then you are lucky. However you really have to load the drivers or software that comes with your camcorder. Tell me your model so that I can see where you can get the drivers or software.

Does it have a memory card? If it has, you may consider inserting it in a card reader so you can transfer the pictures to your pc.

You need to upgrade you ingest system. Windows Media Player(and your system card) probably can't handle the load. Try "Scenalyzer" it's economical, versatile and stable( http://scenalyzer.com/).

Panasonic SDR-H40 video images distorted in Media Player

The camera does not write the 16:9 code properly in the mpeg so Windows media player does not recognize it properly. There is a little utility called index.zip that you can download which has a file sdcopy.exe which copies the file from the camera and properly writes the code. Then any current video editing software will recognize it and display it properly. It is also a handy utility that I prefer over the software that came with the camera.

Bought the cam used need to know how to load the dvd looks like it might be ,missing a cartridge or something

The DVD-RAM media for this camcorder is encased in a plastic cartridge. Several companies make the media for this corder, Maxell calls it DVD-RAM Camcorder (DVD RAM 4.7) 2.8GB. You must verify it shows compatibility with Hitachi Camcorders, as the Sony media does not use the cartridge but is the same ram disc, so you could easily buy the wrong type.

Transfering editing and burning

I think you may be able to use 3rd party software like "ConvertXtoDVD" the camera records in type of .mpg format & this can be used by many programs including Media Player as long as ya have the right "CODEC" to play and manipulate them. So identify the CODEC, what type of .mpg etc, the camera records in and get , Down Load, that one for Media Player. You may be able to use Windows Movie maker too, but any of the good movie programs would do. I have enclosed some helpful links to further help.. www.shareup.com/ConvertXtoDVD-download-44697.html www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/HowToMakeDVD.aspx ats3.fandm.edu/parts/quickstarts/mp026.pdf
