It is usually a battery strength issue. Try this, set the flash to "no flash" mode and try to take a shot. If it works with the flash set to "off", the batteries are probably not strong enough to power up the flash and shoot. If that doesn't work, try really, really GOOD batteries. Most of my customers with this problem solve the issue with Energizer Lithium AA batteries. We sell lots of these batteries, and it usually solves the problem.

Shutter won't open

With a digital camera, some things go different as we were used to with the film camera. The autofocus function, will try to prevent you from taking a picture when not focused.
With a digital camera, every picture should be ok. Than means, as soon as the camera "thinks" not enough light or not in focus, it won't release the shutter. Even when not in automatic, the camera wants to make sure it is in focus and has enough light. So try again when you have enough light. Then press the shutter release button half, till the camera is ready focusing and then press complete. If the camera still strikes perhaps it needs a repair centre?
Make sure you did place the camera in automatic, to exclude other possibilities that can cause "out of focus" or "wrong light"

Nikon D3100 shutter "problem"?

Are your pictures properly exposed and are they sharp or are your pictures degraded? Is that 1/3-second you describe a delay between the time you push the shutter release and the time the picture is taken or somthing else? Check to make sure you're in the proper shutter release mode (slider switch to right of the mode dial). Also, your self-timer may be turned on. Your camera allows you to set a 2 or 10 second delay from the menus. If it is set to 2 seconds and turned on, it might seem like a 1/3-second delay. If that doesn't help, you camera is covered by Nikon's warranty. Contact Nikon Service at 1-800-NIKON-US (1-800-645-6687) 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday.

I have the same problem. If I am outdoors, the camera seems to work fine, but indoors, even with fresh batteries, it will not take a picture.

Pictures are out of focus on screen and when taken i cant seem to reajust the focus camera has been working fine untill i went to take a close up shot and now completely blurry .

If you are focusing On a subject make sure first that you are two feet away,

You can also try to turn On the blur reduction under setup menu. make sure also that your on auto mode or smart scene.

when taking picture indoor turn of the flash, you can do this by pressing the flash button On the camera

here are some basic troubleshooting

try to put your camera On a tripod or on the table to stabilize the camera then try to take a picture.

the technique of taking a picture Is first you need to half press first on the shutter button and you will noticed camera will adjust Now if the camera already adjusted pull press on the shutter button.

Blurry picture may caused if camera is not stabilized and may cause also if the flash will not fire correctly.

The Flash on my camera won't work

When taking pictures, you must really be allowing time for the camera's flash to be charged
before you could take another picture so that camera will have enough time to rest and it
could function normally.
But if the camera was dropped, then it's really causing those kinds of issues like flash will not work properly.

You could still try these steps below:

First, do the POWER RESET:
- Turn off camera
- Remove batteries for a minute
- Reload batteries
- Turn on camera

Second, do the MASTER RESET
- Be in AUTO mode
- Press on MENU button
- Press on the right button until you see SETUP 2
- Scroll down until you see RESET
- Press the right button to pick up on YES or NO
- Press on OK/MENU button for changes to be saved
- Turn off camera for a few seconds so that settings will be refreshed

Turn it on and take a picture.
When you want to have just the AUTO FLASH.

- Rotate the mode dial to PROGRAM
- Press the LEFT/FLASH button until you've seen the
LIGHTNING icon with the Letter A on the leftmost part of the screen
- Try to take a picture by pressing and holding the shutter button
halfway first for 3-5 seconds and then press it all the way down

D50 won't take a picture!

I was having the same problem.. And since I could not afford to take it to the shop, I tried everything I could think of...
Then I fixed it!!
It seems that the slide door behind the shutter was stuck for some reason... If you remove the lens.. (make sure the camera is in manual mode)... snap a shot so the shutter is up.. then gently slide the panel in the back down....
Once I did that.. the camera was working again.... Hope this easy solution works for you guys....

Why doesn't the shutter button on my EasyShare digital camera work?

The cause and solution may include one of the following: The camera is not turned on. Turn on the camera. The camera is processing a picture; the camera Power ring light (on the Mode dial) blinks green. Wait until the light stops blinking before taking another picture. The card or internal memory is full. Transfer pictures to the computer, delete pictures from the camera, switch storage locations, or insert a memory card with available memory. The shutter button was not pressed. Depress the shutter button completely down. There was a failure in the focus and/or exposure. Press the shutter button halfway to set the Auto Focus (AF) and Auto Exposure (AE). When the AF/AE indicator turns green, press the shutter button completely down. The battery is exhausted. Replace or recharge the battery
