Open the case. undo all the cables from the PSU to the other bits inside. Then remove the 4 bolts on the PSU. Remove it. Then do the reverse. Make sure the power is off and disconnected before you start.

SOURCE: Storm knocked power off late

Hello,
The first thing to try is to cycle the power. To do this, unplug the power cord from the back of the PC and press and hold down the power button on the PC for 5 seconds. This will completely drain any "stuck" power in the components. Now plug the power back into the PC and try booting. If it still does not come back on after this, then you may be dealing with a blown power supply. You can buy replacement power supplies from your local PC shop for about $50 for a 400watt.
To protect your devices in the future, make sure you have a good surge protector and / or a UPS (uninterrupted power supply).

SOURCE: the power on my hp pavilion hl919 won't turn on.

That's rather like saying your car won't start and asking where to buy a part. It would probably be a good idea to know what part you need first, and then you can shop around until you find the best place. Having said that, I usually check eBay first for laptop parts, and TigerDirect or Newegg for desktop parts.

But I'm confused. I can't find any listing on HP's site or in any of my literature from time as an HP warranty-authorized servicer for an HL919. I do find an XT919 listed, though. If this is yours, you may have trouble finding any parts other than plug-in pieces (RAM, processor, etc.) which are generic. The only "part" listed is a replacement computer, meaning this was a model made for HP by someone else and branded for them. Even HP doesn't support those; under warranty they simply replace the computer and send the dud back to whoever made it.

If the computer won't turn on, try another power supply. A generic power supply may fit in the case, but I don't have any way to check for sure. Some HP machines used proprietary supplies with odd dimensions and power connectors. If the power supply isn't the trouble, the motherboard is the next likely problem, and you probably won't find one at a reasonable price if at all. If the processor and memory are current, I'd suggest just getting a new motherboard and installing it in the case and reusing the other parts. Assuming, again, that the power supply has a standard plug for the board, and that the current motherboard uses standard mounting hole locations.

Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya.

Won't turn on

Susan,
Dealing with overseas tech support people can be frustrating. If the laptop is only a few days old, you really need to contact them first.

Im sure its still covered under warranty, so start there first.
If it wont boot, it could be a number of things.
If you get no where with them, please post back and someone here will try to help.

My LG LCD 32LD350 seemed to have been fried in a storm last night, stanby red light no longer lit and won't turn on, still see some green lighting inside televison, but it won't turn on, Is it

Is it repairable, well, this question can be answered only after opening the back cover and evaluating the damage. From you side, please connect the TV to a different power outlet where other similar devices are working and see. Then try changing the input device to something that sure works. If it does not work even then, this may need attention by a qualified service technician.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.

I have a Sanyo DP26648. Last night we had a very bad storm here and the T.V. will not power on now after several hours with no electricity. I had a power surger on the line but it still...

It has knocked out your power supply board...It can be changed very easily just by taking the back off the set and tracing it from where the AC cord plugs in. Then unplug and unscrew the board. The part number should be 1AV4U20C17201. Match this number from your board and do a search with the number on Ebay or shopjimmy.com or google to get availibility and price. You can even do a search with the model number as well. Just be sure the board numbers match completely. But first replace the fuse as this could be your sole problem since you had a power surge.

Unable to get passed the startup screen (HP logo screen). normal power down last night. Disconnected all USB peripherals still without success.

AS YOU ON THE SYSTEM AND EVEN BEFORE WINDOWS STARTS KEEP PRESSING THE F8 KEY CONTINUEOUSLY. A MENU WILL APPEAR. SELECT SAFE MODE AND ENTER. WINDOWS WILL LOAD IN SAFE MODE. THIS WILL SOLVE SOME OF YOUR PROBLEMS. NOW RESTART THE SYSTEM IN NORMAL MODE.

IF THIS DOES NOT WORK SELECT "LOAD WINDOWS WITH LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION " AND THEN RESTART. THIS WILL SURELY SORT OUT YOUR PROBLEM.

PLS REPLY OR COMMENT. THANKS

I left it on last night. This morning it was off

check your power cord to insure that you are getting power. make sure power cord is plug in the back.
look in back of computer. you will see a little orange switch. it says 115/220 click to 220. boot computer.
if computer boots up turn off and click back over to 115.
if it does not boot your power supply in your computer needs replacement.
