Stove top pilot light

I have a GE XL44 and the stove top burners will not light automaticly. I have to put a external flame to the gas when turned on. It looks like there is some sort of ceramic heat module that the burner sits on that should maintain enough heat to generate the gas to ignite when knob is turned. How does the pilot stay lit if not through this ceramic knob? When stove is not used for a few hours the top burners don't want to light. Takes 5-10 minutes to get one to light. You can hear pilot clicking & see spark but won't light. Won't light with external flame either. After you finally get one to light they all work fine.

There is a fuel rail that holds small amount of gas, the rail is connected to thermal coupler which then is attached to the gas line. If you are getting gas than the coupler is probably bad. The problem then would between the gas outlet and the fuel rails, which should be the coupler.

The safety valve which controls the amount of gas flow also has tendency of going on throught the years. Have seen it many times. It may be best to replace the entire component.

There is a thermocouple that controls the igniter, that may be faulty.

The igniter is controlled by a sensor, that sensor is a thermocouple that regulates the valve to check if the flame is steadily on.

If the thermocouple is bad, you get no ignition.

Also a faulty pilot safety valve, and a defective control can give you same kind of problems on ignitor.

SOURCE: stove top pilot light

I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

Where is the pilotlight on a ge xl44 gas stove I belive it is in the door under the oven well I turned the gas on and stuck a flame down there and nothen took off is there a certian place to put the flame....

In general lets be clear. The OVEN pilot is located under the oven door at the top of the Broiler. It is a small piece of metal just before the GAS safety Valve which acts on temperature so gas won't flow unless Pilot is lit,That's the OVEN PILOT.The stove's RANGE is the top burners where you heat Pots and Pans.It has either 2 Pilot lights that connect the burners to the Flame they are under the Range Top.Newer Models use electronic ignitions no flame. Please note if you had your stove/oven disconected or Gas off when you turn it back on there will be air in the line that needs to escape before you light. This is why in NYC when Utility Co.works on steet main the MUST re-light your appliances.Be Careful with Gas.Good Luck.

For the GE XL44 model, where would i find the pilot light? the stove is not working

There is not pilot light on the stove top since the burner is activated by a spark generate by high voltage to a small ceramic disk with a wire protruding from it by the burner.
You have the have AC Power to the stove and you should hear a clicking when you slightly turn on the burner. Once the burner is on fire then turn the burner control to the desired temperature. If the burner will not light after 4 seconds of clicking sounds turn the burner control off and make sure the round gas diffuser on top of the burner is correctly seated on the burner. It should lock in place and is removable for daily cleaning of the stove. Now try the burner control again in the light position for no more than four seconds to see if it lights.
Do you smell gas? Do you hear clicking when slightly turning the burner knob? If yes to both the stove is working and the top of the burner is not seated correctly. If no on either or both you may have a stove, electrical or gas problem.

    Getting to the Pilot

Your model JGBP28DED2WH uses spark ignition on the stove top burners, and a glow bar ignitor, part number WB2X9154 for the oven and broiler. To get to the bake ignitor if oven will not light: Take the racks out of the oven. Remove oven floor by removing two screws at back of oven floor and lifting floor. Remove the square metal flame spreader to get to the burner / ignitor assembly. (note: The ignitor may still glow when you try it, but usually is still the problem)

    Gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.
