Question about Craftsman 675 Series 190cc 22" Briggs Stratton Rear Bag Front Propelled Lawn Mower ()
Engine throwing heavy black smoke when mowing, slows but still there at idle
Usually this is a sign of oil being in the ignition chamber. Check the oil level, if too high drain and refill to proper level. Also if you have hills or slopes in your yard make sure that you are mowing up and down not across. If you must mow across the slope make sure to do it with the oil to the downward side. Caution if you do this too often the engine will be deprived of oil all together and seize up.

Testimonial: "Thank you, changed the oil. Now when I mow I can see my house,"
The engine could be running too rich. it could also be burning oil. Of course, if it's a two cycle engine, it's supposed to do that. If it's a four cycle, maybe someone mistakenly put a two cycle oil/gas mix in the fuel tank.
