Surround problem with Yamaha HTR-5930 5.1 Channels Receiver

Hi, I have Yamaha HTR 5930 reciever. And it seems to me that I can't get 5.1 surround quite right. I have 1080p movies with 5.1 channel audio and my LG plasma is connected to the reciever over optical cable (DTV in optical). And on display of reciever there are shown only 2 speakers (left and right), I don't know should there be shown all 5 speakers as they are shown while doing audio setup. During setup they are all working. And they work (you can hear sound) but I don't have seperate sound from each one of them. I have connected front speakera to A (big jacks), center to center, woofer to pre sub and rear speakers to surround. Did I do anything wrong? Thanx.

I found out that my laptop that is connected to TV via HDMI does not have 5.1 output, so when I connect something else on the TV that has 5.1 output the receiver gets 5.1 sound.... Silly me :)

The signal that comes from most tv's via the optical output is a stereo signal only. That is what your receiver is reading. You would have to manually set your receiver to decode the signal into surround,.

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V365 Receiver, Yamaha NS-AP2600S(BL) Speakers

I have the same issue. I took the speaker apart and tested with a meter and both the mid and tweater were wide open, in short blow out. Not sure what caused this but the speaker needs to be replaced.

Look at the amp for disconnected wires. If OK then the amplifier may have blown output transistors.

The simplest for the movie would be to connect the Optical digital audio out of the TV (above the VGA port) to the Optical Audio In on the receiver. You will need to get this cable from any store that sells TOSLink cables. The manual for the TV is available here: http://www.lg.com/uk/tv-audio-video/televisions/LG-led-tv-42LE5300.jsp . The manual for the receiver is available at the Yamaha support page if you are a registered Yamaha customer: http://download.yamaha.com/search/product/?category_id1=16445&&category_id2=16446&product_id=1060939 .

For the XBox, I'd suggest the same connection if you are using HDMI out on the XBox. If you are using component or composite video, route the audio cables to the receiver's RCA audio in.

I hope this helps.

I have a Yamaha HTR-5930 Home Theater Sys. Somehow, I've managed to lose my right channel when watching T.V. (dish network), but when my son plays with the XBox, he gets full surround stereo. Any ideas?

The XBox is probably hooked up separately to the amplifier, try cycling the inputs on the amplifier. If that doesn't work replace the cbale between your amplifier and tv.

Lux Audio 5.1 home theater speaker & Yamaha HTR 5540 AMP

configure ur PC (both OS audio and third party sound driver) for surround sounds. control panel- sounds and audio devices - speaker settings - advanced - speker settings. so this done. make sure u select the 6 input channel - the button is on the right edge near the volume knob. near the vol button there are two buttons for selecting input type with up down arrow. from that u can select the input type this will be indicated on the top front indicator. but with the 6 input channel selected all selections are preceeded. if u select stereo mode u will have left/ right audio only.
make sure u connect the input right. connect from computer to 6 channel input. main, surround, center and sub-woofer.  connect the spekers to main (L/R), rear(surround) (L/R), center and sub woofer to terminal marked sub woofer ouput. this done select like i said before the 6 channel button. that should do it.

Left from speaker not working- Yamaha HTR-5940-6.1 channel

Redbird,

What do you have in the "multi channel input" jacks on the rear of the receiver? Those inputs Right, Left, Center, Surround R+L, and Sub are used when selecting 6 channel mode. They bypass the receivers surround processor board.
