Question about Palm Tungsten E2 Handheld

Palm is locked up

Help. My Palm is sick.
It turns on. I get a Tungsten "welcome" screen.
It goes to time and date page then freezes. Won't respond at all.
Can't even turn it off. I've done repeated resets. Same scenario every time.
Doctor, is there any hope?I have a palm tungesten E2 and as I was using it to beam a note to my palm centro phone (which I've been able to do several times) but it has now locked up. After several attempts to reset it from a "fatal alert" it would power on, go do the date/time screen and then to the "tap target" but that was as far as it would go, it just kept going straight to the 'tap target" and I would go through the the process of tapping the target but it just kept doing it, it would go no further. Then the last couple of times after the reset it went to the date/time screen but has frozen up because when I tapped on the "done" it would not go to any other screen. It is a good one about 2 years old or maybe 3 but has worked beautifully until now. Never had any problems at all with it. I don't have the instructions for a hard set (which means I will have to reload all my info.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Lila Litter

TRYING PUSHING A PIN INTO THE LITTLE HOLE IN THE BACK THIS WILL DO A HARD RESET IT MIGHT HELP YOU. --------------------------------- Anything that is pressing on the screen under the case bezel causes phantom screen taps that supercede any user input.

1. Remove screen protector.
2. Clean under the case bezel using the folded corner of a piece of copier paper as a scoop, going no more than 2-3mm under the case.

---------------------------- Resetting your handheld On rare occasions your handheld may not respond when you press a button or tap the screen. In this case, you need to reset your handheld. Doing a soft reset A soft reset tells your handheld to stop what it’s doing and start over again. None of your information will be lost. After a soft reset, a screen appears that lets you reset the date and time, if needed. To do a soft reset, use the tip of the stylus to gently press the reset button inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld. If your handheld does not respond after a soft reset, you need to do a hard reset.
Doing a hard reset Only do a hard reset if a soft reset doesn’t solve your problem, or if you want to clear all of your information from your handheld. A hard reset deletes all records and entries stored on your handheld, including the username that identifies the handheld. This is another reason why it's important to synchronize often, so you have an up-to-date backup available. Before you do a hard reset, be sure to synchronize. 1 Press and hold the power button.
2 While holding the power button, use the tip of the stylus (or a similar object without a sharp tip) to gently press and release the reset button inside the hole on the back of your handheld. 3 Wait for the Palm Powered™ logo to appear, and then release the power button.
4 When you see the message that warns you about erasing all of the info on your handheld, do one of the following: • Press Up on the 5-way navigator to finish the reset and show the touchscreen. • Press any other button to do a soft reset. Restoring your information after a hard reset If you synchronized before doing a hard reset, you can now put that information back on your handheld. However, you may need to re-enter some of your personal settings, as well as your color-coded categories in Calendar. 1 Open the Custom menu in the HotSync® application: a. Click the HotSync Manager icon in the taskbar in the lower-right corner of the screen. b. Click Custom. 2 Select the correct username from the list at the top of the box.

ALSO FURTHER YOU HAVE TO PERFORM BUT THAT IS MENTIONED IN THE LINK ABOVE JUST CLICK IT DIRECTLLY  http://www.palm.com/us/support/handbooks/tungstene2/en/maintain.pdf

PLEASE rate the solution if helped as this is the exact solution and information you required. thanks.

  1. Hold down the power (on/off) button on your device.
Note: Treo 600 smartphones have two power buttons. Hold down the one on the top of the unit next to the antenna.
  2. While holding down the power button, turn over your device so that you can see the back of it. Still holding the power button, use an unfolded paper clip or a similar small object, to gently press and release the RESET button on the back (Where's the reset hole?).
    • Treo 680: There is no RESET button; instead, remove the battery and replace it while holding the Power button. It helps to remove the battery cover (but not the battery) before starting a System Reset, so your hand is free to hold the Power button throughout.
  3. When the Palm Computing Platform or Palm Powered logo appears, release the power button. Depending on your device, this logo looks like:

Note: On some devices, you may see a palmOne logo and a progress bar first. Do not release the power button until the second, circular Palm Powered logo appears.

  4. A message wPalm is locked up - 887_eraseall.gifng that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld.

In response, do one of the following:
    • Press the UP button to complete the hard reset, erasing everything on your device
      or
    • Press LEFT or RIGHT to begin a soft reset, leaving your data intact.

You can try doing a hard reset. A hard reset will delete everything on your device. All your data will be deleted, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings. Don't perform a hard reset unless you've backed up your data, or you're willing to lose everything. Here is the link for directions for the Hard Reset:

The screen just flashes palm powered. will not respond to anytype of reset or battery unplug.

Hi,
I recently had some problems with my Palm. I went through the Palm online chat support which was free. You can do phone support but it will cost about $15. Here is a link to Palm support. If you scroll to the bottom of the page there is a link for the chat service. I have very good results. Best wishes. I hope this works for you.

When you turn your Palm on, on the main page there should be a list of icons. Make sure in the upper right-hand corner All displays with an arrow pointing down.

Then, click on the World Clock icon to change the date/time for your Palm.

PDA intermitently powers up then freezes on "Palm Powered" screen

I had the same issue. What you need to do is to hold the power on/off button than press the reset button. The screen turns off (get black) than the will ask you to make a hard reset (which end up deleting all datas). The Palm will power on like the first time you turned it on after you bought it. Than depending which version you have it will possible ask you which language you will like to have as default. After selecting you neet to setup the rest. If this is done you sync it all data will come back :-)
