Assuming you have checked that the defrost system and fans are working correctly. I suspect that you have a blockage in the refrigeration system. You need to flush and vacuum and replace the reciever drier.

Having reduced the amount of refrigerant sounds like you may have been a bit overcharged? The evaporator (indoor fans) should run continuous unless a door is opened. Condenser fan should run only when the compressor runs. Running pressures would differ depending on ambient and type of refrigerant used. Unfortunately, I am in Africa, so would not advise you on pressure. Sorry. Is your system controlled by an LP/HP switch? Or what is causing the compressor to switch on and off?

Freezer staying off for too long

This sounds like a defective start relay overload and capacitor if your model has one. When a compressor short cycles it causes the symptoms that you described. Short cycling can be caused by the parts I listed and a defective condenser fan or dirty condenser coils can cause the defective start components. What is your model number? Sea Breeze

New 5 cu ft chest freezer cycles on every 30 min. Grumbly sound. 1 notch from 'coldest it only reaches 5 degrees. Freezer 3/4 full.

look in your onwers manuel and it should tell you what your temperature for the freezer should range from.if it was not giving to you when you bought the freezer then it should be behind the pannel down where the compresser is taped to the side.but as you know any thing below 32 degrees is freezing so 5 degrees is pretty cold.i dont under stand about the noise but if you think your freezer is not working right and if it is new then call place where you got it and tell them your concerns and then they should send a technician out

Short cycle in freeze mode

a short cycle usually means it is cutting out on high or low pressure. If its low pressure add gas.If its high pressure make sure condenser coils are clean.amp check compressor if its real low its low pressure if its real high either high pressure or bad cap or bad compressor windings.

Freezer is Frozen shut

Try unplugging the freezer and leave the door open for about 30 to 45 minutes. Don't forget the door is open and plug the freezer back in. Set a timer in the kitchen so you don't forget. Once you can open the drawers look inside the freezer sides to find the controller. Most models have turn dial inside.

I have a General Freezer,Ltd model 16 Upright and it shuts itself off periodically without my being aware . When I see food defrosting , I am able to restart the unit by tapping on the temp control dial...

You need to replace the temperature control, (unless you find a bad wire connection to the temp control first). You can find a control that is close enough at any appliance parts store, bring the old one in for a match up. Make sure it is NOT a 39 degree constant cut in type and you will want a differential of at least 6 or 8 degrees minimum so that it wont "short cycle" which means it would run for a few minutes, shut off for a few then run again before the high side pressure comes down.

My side by side refrigerator on the freezer side is dripping water at the bottom on to the coil. The coil seems to be making a sizzling sound and turning red is this ok

There is a defrost heater that periodically turn on to melt the accumulated frost on the coil. The heater will warm the coil to about 45 degrees and a defrost thermostat should shut off power to the heater. The defrost cycle should only last about 30-45 minutes then the compressor should kick on. If you find that some items in your freezer are melting, or that the freezer is not maintaining temperature, then something is wrong. Hope this helps you.

could be a dirty condenser. Hi pressure safety is preventing a dangerous condtion by shutting it down. When pressure drops, unit cycles back on. Check it out.

Freezer wont run

LIsten for a "clicking" noise that hums and then clicks. If you hear this the compressor is trying to start and it is what is called cycling on the relay. There is a relay and an overload device connected to the side of the compressor that starts it. The problem may be the relay/overload, or it may be the compressor. The noise will occur then repeat a short time(minutes) later. If you don't hear anything, it could be the cold control where you adjust the temperature. Find the control and with the power off, disconnect the wiring to it and try to figure out which of the wires plugged into it are the power leads.Often there is a ground with a stripe(often green in color) and maybe there is a schematic that will tell you. If you can determine this, jump the wires together using any method that will connect them. I often use a non-vinyl coated paper clip, make sure it is not touching metal and plug it in. If you hear that marvellous sound of power, replace the control. The control lead on chest freezers is uninsulated and is pushed into a hole in the freezer near the control and compressor. It pulls out and you push the new one in(I use some lube). If the relay is the culprit there are aftermarket ones available that have directions and are relatively cheap. Good luck, AJ

You have a restriction in the system or a overcharge.
Recover the system.
Replace the filter/drier.
Pull a deep vacuum.
Recharge according to the nameplate charge.

Ice cube cycle time very high

i suspect a defective liquid line or pump down seleonid coil. just make sure you hear the "click" when it starts up if not the selenoid coils could be defective. also verify that the condenser fan is running, because if not you are short-cycling on high head pressure. please contact if you need any additional info
